Sharing a Bed

Let me just warn you, this is a very scandalous blog post. For my blog that is, because I don't tend to write scandalous stuff. I believe that prior to this, the most scandalous I've gotten was when I admitted to my eavesdropping habit or when I confessed that I kissed Angel first. My cheeks are still a little red from that one.

But I felt that anyone who has had a bed to themselves for their whole life could use a little more warning about what sharing a bed is really like before they come across that adventure in their adult lives.

Things have calmed down around here lately, but for the first few months after marriage, we had some crazy times. A few weeks after we got married, I woke up to Angel attempting to push me off the bed with all of his might. I was clinging to the edge, and immediately started yelling, "Stop! I'm going to fall off the bed!" which woke him up enough that he ceased from his mission of gaining the entire bed for himself.

Another time, I woke up because Angel hit me! Normally, we're not a very violent family, but he says that he was having a dream and he need to kill this monster so he struck out at it, but as it turned out, he missed and hit me instead. He was just as startled as I was, and kissed and cuddled me back to sleep, so I forgave him.

I haven't gotten as physical in my adjustment to sharing the room with him, but there's been a little excitement from my side as well. For a short time, Angel was working shifts that would bring him home at midnight or 1 in the morning. The first time that he quietly opened our bedroom door when he got home from work, I woke up and immediately started screaming at the top of my lungs, "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" He was laughing his head off at the same time that he was trying to comfort me and reassure me that I was safe.

After that, I think I still woke up with a shriek or a yell every time Angel tried to come in our room in the middle of the night, but it was more of the general "AHHH!" than yelling for an actual person. We are very glad that that phase of Angel's work schedule didn't last long, as it appears that I am not at all fond of people walking into my room in the middle of the night.

Both of us have been known to talk in our sleep, and we've both woken up to entertaining monologues from the other. I love blankets so they often end up all on my side of the bed, in spite of the fact that I have one blanket specifically for me that I always sleep with. Usually that's okay, though, because Angel doesn't get as cold as I do.

I think that there should just be a little more warning for the unmarried ahead of time about the prospect of sleeping in such close proximity to their beloved: just so that they would be prepared in case of a husband who kills things in his dreams or a wife who is a little too easily startled when sleeping.

Is this just us? Has anyone else had interesting times getting used to sharing a bed?

Ahahahaha, Oh I love this! You should be so scandalous more often! :D I think the first story was my favourite - forcible removal... hehe...
I'm still single, but have occasionally had cousins stay overnight and share my double bed... one night, Mel and I both rolled into each other, hitting heads solidly enough to wake us both and it hurt! :(

haha those are pretty great stories! We go back and forth hogging the covers, last night I completely took them all but other nights Kev will take them all...other than that he claims I sleep to close to him sometimes "forcing" him to the edge of the bed...

hehehe.. This is too funny! My bf and I have our own blankets.. but if I can't find mine in my sleepy stupor I take his.. I also snore, so he has been known to kick me if it gets too bad.. and to add to this fun, we also have two cats. One has a habit of meowing at me when it is time for me to get up (she doesn't believe in the snooze button) or meowing at me in the middle of the night to lay out the blanket for her.. I just tell her to wake up her boy.. she is his cat afterall. hehe

So funny and so true! After Josh and I got married, it was an elbow to the face at least once a night for the first week. He "just wasn't used to having someone there" haha

That's too funny! Hubs has hit me a few times in his sleep. He tends to sleep with his arm up and has elbowed me in the face more than once. My favorite story though was when he fell asleep on his arm and it went numb. While trying to wake it up in his sleep he somehow flopped it over whacking me across the stomach. The poor guy felt so bad he apologized forever and then even told his whole family what he did and how bad he felt that night at dinner!

That's funny! My hubby and I have our own struggles. I tend to steal the blankets while I'm asleep and hubby won't steal them back so he just gets cold.

So sweet. We have strange sleep habits, too. I sleep with the cats (I mean, we all cuddle and hold hands/paws and snuggle up so sweet). He gets the other half of the bed and rolls around and runs to the bathroom a gazillion times a night. Meanwhile, there I am with the 2 cats, dead asleep. Until, (and this happens about once a week), Alex decides to snore. It's a new thing. Like, maybe a few months now. I am always sandwiched by the cats so I can barely move but I move enough to hit him across the chest and yell "YOU ARE SNORING." He shuts up. I go to sleep. Strange, sharing a bed. It is strange for sure....

Dave used to say some random things in his sleep like "they don't double 50 cents!" or usually he'd think he saw something on the ceiling and would say "what's that?!" when of course nothing was there. He also used to think I was falling out of bed when I was nowhere near the edge and he'd wake me up saying to be careful! haha.

Is there anything bigger than a King-sized bed? I used to roll out of bed when I was a kid...but I still sometimes find myself right at the edge, especially when I'm only entitled to the small half. What I really want in one of those circular beds. I don't know if that would help but it looks like fun.

We have had those experiences too. But I have found marriage has made us unkind in the prospect of sleep. We get angry when one wakes the other up, and I get mad if he steals my pillow (even if it is unknowingly)...but for the most part, I love that the other side of the bed is never cold. Marriage is amazing in that sense:)

We've had convos that my husband doesn't even remember! And he'll even get out of bed to check on something and have no idea the next morning! So crazy!

Great post! It's been so long, I honestly don't even remember having to get used to it, but I know I frequently have to shove my husband to get the dear man to cease snoring long enough for me to fall asleep. ;) Lol.

Following you from the GFC blog hop. Love to invite you to the Weekend Blog Walk @ At Home Take 2. Hope to see you there!

One thing that should be discussed previous to marriage is the side of the bed you sleep on, this could be a deal breaker. When you're used to one side, it's hell to try to get used to the other!

I needed a laugh, thanks. I'll take the snoring, pushes and cover fights over an empty bed any night.

Hi, I found you at (above) blog hope too! I actually had to say your blog title out loud, it's simply genius. Anyway, I completely relate!! I've gotten an actual BLACK EYE from my hubby's crazy sleep antics. And he has this weird foot thing, so he has to yank up the sheets and comforter and tuck them under his feet. Ugh. But after a while, you can't sleep without them...

This was hilarious! I've been knocked in the head by my husband's elbow, kicked in the leg with bruises to show for it, and the infamous stealing of covers. I did try to answer my cell phone in my sleep one night, but it wasn't really ringing.

Hi! I found you through Megan's September Post linkup! This post is pretty funny. Luckily my husband doesn't attack me in bed, but he definitely says some funny things in his sleep sometimes! Once (he's a mountain biker), he sat straight up in bed and dead-asleep said, "My new bikes come tomorrow!" and was back out in seconds. Awesome. :) I'll be stopping by more often!

Oooh to funny! I am visiting from Meet Up Monday and this post is great! We has similar problems when we first got married. One night I yelled at my hubby in my sleep and when I woke up in the morning he was sleeping on the floor next to the bed because he thought I was actually mad at him - but I didn't remember a thing because I was asleep ;) We have worked it all out now though!
