How to Have an Adventure

Sometimes, I just want to go on an adventure.

But more often, I can't go on adventures. I'm at school 40 hours a week, or Angel's working 12 hour shifts five days in a row, and we simply don't have time for adventures at the moment. Sometimes this makes me a little sad, because I've never been great at settling down and accepting a boring lifestyle when there are so many exciting lives to live elsewhere.

So I have a few habits that I've gotten into for coping with the adventure cravings when it seems as if no adventures are immediately upon us.

Note that we are sitting in a stream of running water, wearing street clothes and sandals. Caves are awesome.

1. I look at pictures of adventures we've already had. The time I talked Angel into taking a 9 hour road trip to visit the Mall of America? Brilliant. The day Angel and my family took a tour through a cave in mainland Malaysia, crawling on our elbows and knees through tiny passages filled almost completely full with water and trusting that our guide actually knew where he was going? Priceless.

2. I plan future adventures. I'm not entirely sure that Angel appreciates this hobby of mine as much as he should, but I typically have a couple getaways/vacations planned for us at any given time. Scouring the internet for affordable international flights, researching bed and breakfasts near national parks, looking up how much it costs to stay in a Disney resort, and finding out if there are any Panda Express restaurants in Chicago are just a couple of ways I satisfy my desire for adventure. (I learned long ago that I can convince Angel to go anywhere as long as there is a Panda Express near our destination.)

3. I decide to make everyday life an adventure. I use our fine china and goblets, and I light candles for a fancy dinner of fried chicken and mashed potatoes at 8:30 at night after Angel gets home from work. I bring our camera to the grocery store and we come up with funny things to take pictures of. I suggest carrying our dinner plates outdoors when the weather is warmer.

These things fuel my adventurous longings. For now. Once in a while, we do get to go on a trip and explore somewhere new, but I also make sure to enjoy all the adventurous moments in between travels, too.

I love adventures also :) Our favorite is to go get lost in the woods somewhere and play with nature for the weekend while camping like two horrible americans with too much stuff in our tent, lol

I'm coming over from the Grow Your Blog Hop, although I have seen your name all around commenting on many of the same blogs I read and comment on, so I feel like it's time I follow you as well. (We must have similar taste if we already read and follow many of the same people).

Doesn't it stink how life gets in the way of truly living life? It's so easy to slip into the boring, mundane routines. You've inspired me. I need to go on an adventure myself-as soon as the weather warms up. :)

I love adventures too - but Michael is much better at planning them then I am. I always suggest eating outside!

I'm currently planning three future vacations to tide me over. I'm hoping the mister and I can get some adventures in soon...it's been too long since our last one.

Ah, an adventure sounds awesome right about now! I have the winter doldrums, ready for spring and for doing something fun in the warm weather. I giggled at the Authentic Mexican pic. You and your hubby are so cute.

I love your idea of making everyday life an adventure and maybe having some adventures further afield later. Sounds like fun! :)

Amarillo has a Panda Express - and I know of a place that has a guest room you could stay in :) bahaha. You could even do her hair while you're here!

This post is perfect for how I've been feeling this week!

I'm all for the everyday adventures though. Using fancy china, wearing the nice underwear, dressing up for no reason at all... Life's too short to always be waiting for a special occasion!

Such a sweet idea! I too, dream of having lots more adventures than I will probably ever have! I like the idea of looking back at old adventures - life goes by so fast that I often forget about fun things that I've done in the past! It's always good to remember!

Thanks for visiting my blog, Rachel!

I know what you mean about longing for adventure! I'm already planning my hubby and my trip to Italy and it won't be for at least a year. :-)

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with an adventurous heart. It's hard for us too with my husband's demanding school schedule. I've tried to find cool things to try out here locally in town, and plan road trips for this summer when he's finally free. I like your ideas too.
