My Former Career

In my past life, I had a career somewhat different than my current career as a wife/cosmetology student/blogger. (note: In my world, 'career' doesn't necessarily mean that you make money. That's simply because I rarely make money from anything I do.)

In my past life, I was a drama nerd. Actress. Theater geek. Call it what you will, but I was on the stage at any and every possible opportunity. And I loved it. The weeks of rehearsals, memorizing lines, stage makeup and listening from behind the curtains for your cue--that was my life.

13 years old. I played "Secretary to the Devil" in our church's skit to the Carmen song "The Courtroom." Obviously, I thought I was pretty cool.

 15 years old. I played a straight-A high school student who finds herself assigned to be principal for the day when all of the school administration is called away suddenly.

 15 years old. Duchess Gloriana in "The Mouse that Roared." Decides to declare war against the United States of America, and, through a bizarre series of events, wins the war!

 16 years old. I played a bratty, ditzy cheerleader in "Baggage Claim." As if you couldn't tell by that stance.

 16 years old. I won first place at the Southeast Asia Forensics Tournament in the category of "Solo Acting" for my portrayal of Olga Vetrow, a passionate drama teacher. The most memorable comment that the judges left me was, "I really thought you were a cow." (referencing the fact that I spent part of the skit down on my hands and knees mooing and thereby teaching my students what it means to be a cow.)

 17 years old. My friends and I put together a little talk show that aired on our college's television channel. I swear, I didn't fall asleep. Fun fact: Angel joined the cast of the show in order to spend more time with me.

 17 years old. I played the wife of that guy. This role was somewhat controversial, as he not only put his arm around me, over the course of the play he kissed me on the head and we slowdanced. After the play I had to forcibly keep my Mom from finding my costar and giving him a good talking-to.

One role that I wish I had record of was also from college days. I was in a student film, the plot of which was that I was a very evil woman who asked a guy out on a first date to the restaurant owned by her ex-boyfriend. Chaos ensued. It was hilarious.

Obviously, I don't necessarily go for roles with great depth, and I don't limit my acting participation only to plays which fully classify as works of art. I'm just happy for any opportunity to dress up in a costume and be silly in front of a large crowd.

Hmmmm...maybe that's why I like blogging so much....

Anyways, I'll end today's post with a video of my one and only paid acting job, the culmination of my career. I acted as if I were a happy, fun-loving college student in a commercial for my college, and hey--for $8 an hour plus food, I sure wouldn't mind doing that for the rest of my life!
