Borrowed Finery

Once upon a time, I was in beauty school. One of the great tragedies of beauty school was that I was required to wear solid black clothing.

I owned very little in the way of solid black clothing and my darling sister Lizzy said, "Hey, I just bought this skirt at Salvation Army, but you have have it till you're done with beauty school, because you need it more than I do right now."

I took it gladly. As you may be aware, I haven't been in beauty school since August, so technically I suppose that my lease on this skirt is up. Yet I'm still wearing it, and I'm surprised at how much more fun it is to wear when I'm not constrained to wearing it with a black top and black shoes as well.

If Lizzy wants it back now, well that's all right, she'll just have to come over here and get it. (Yes, I'm not above bribing my relatives into visiting me. I'm quite talented at it, actually.)

Do you ever borrow clothes instead of buying them?

That's one of the things I miss the most about living in a dorm...I borrowed clothes ALL the time.

I can't even remember the last time I borrowed clothes - unless you count coats!

Growing up with a brother, not too much sibling-clothes-borrowing happened, but I had some friends who I could get things from. Especially for more formal things, borrowing beats buying any day. Although now I seem to be constantly borrowing Malcolm's jerseys - they're just so much more comfy than mine! ;)

I borrow clothes instead of buying them ALL THE TIME! It's a bit ridiculous how many I have acquired from friends/sister's wardrobes ;).
I love this skirt, it's so versatile!

If my sister lived closer I'm sure we would be borrowing clothes much more often. Since she lives on the other side of the country we don't have the opportunity and I don't think she would be keen on lending them for months at a time. I know I wouldn't and she'd probably be borrowing more from me.

That leaves my husband and I have borrowed more than a few things from his closet but he is fine with it. Strange since he is borderline obsessive about his clothes and closet.

A lot of my work clothes actually come from my mom's closet. She gets sick of stuff or she has stuff with the tags still on and she'll give them to me, and then I have new stuff to wear! love it.

That's so nice of your sis to lend you it! When my sisters and I lived together we borrowed clothes all the time. Love this leather skirt! And I know how the all-black dress code goes. It's seriously no fun!

I don't really borrow clothes, because no one is my size or really has the same style. However, I am borrowing a Halloween costume :-)

I don't really borrow clothes either...I don't know anybody my size or my style, especially in Sitka. But my mom and sister and I used to exchange jewelry all the time...does that count? ;)

Yep! I totally borrowed a pair of white jeans from my sister, and then never gave them back. She got mad, but then got tired of waiting and went and bought another pair, so now they are mine forever, bwahaha.

Nope haven done that. It's the other way round, they borrow mine, duh!

That skirt is so pretty. I don't think you should give it back. ;-)

I always hated when my jobs made me wear a "uniform" of sorts. I even made that an ultimatum once for a job when they wanted to hire me. I said no uniform or no me. ;-)

Cute outfit! I never really borrow clothes, but I wish my sister was a little bit older so we could!

Yeap! I don't get to do it too often b/c I'm way taller than most of my close friends. But, I borrowed a super cute dress to wear to a wedding a couple of years back. It was an expensive dress and I returned to her dry cleaned and everything! It was a great way to save money and I got lots of compliments on it! :-)

Borrowing clothes would be awesome if I knew someone who wore the same size. Nice skirt!
