I think I may have exaggerated a little bit with that title. This is probably not the secret of all fashion bloggers, but it is the secret of a not-quite-fashion-blogger who really likes dressing up and really hates taking off her nail polish at the appropriate time. I typically paint my nails once every week or two...or three. And taking off chipped nail polish is my least favorite beauty chore. So I often wait till it all comes off by itself before I paint my nails again.
However, it's possible for my blog readers to see pictures of me without judging me by my nails because of a few tricks:
1. Clenched fists/folded hands. Anything to keep the nails away from the camera lens.
2. Conveniently grab ahold of my scarf which happens to be falling off. Oh, how natural!!
3. Crop out all the fingers!!!
4. Suddenly remember that your dress has pockets, insert hand into pocket.
Now you know my secret. If you ever see a photo of me with a clenched fist or with my hands stuck in my pockets, you know why. It's almost a gut reaction. I'm not sure why, I don't tend to be self-conscious about much, but I am a little self-conscious about my nails. I think it may be a reaction from beauty school days where girls would re-do their nails every night...or the fact that I can still remember reading somewhere in some magazine, probably 10 years ago, that chipped nail polish is the worst fashion faux pas of all.
Note that none of these experiences make me actually remove my nail polish in a timely fashion, which would be the reasonable response. They simply make me a little more adept at hiding my nails in certain situations.
What do you do about nails? Forgo the whole nail polish ordeal? Keep them immaculate? Alternate between 3 days of pretty nails and a week of ugly nails like I do?

Haha! I do this all the time! ;) Thanks so much for guest posting today... I really appreciate it! ♥
this green dress is absolutly great, you are very pretty!
i love when my outfits have pockets, because i can never figure out what to do with my hands.
i have also noticed the clenched fists with other bloggers. i just thought they were tense. :)
That green is gorgeous on you! I love any dress that has pockets, but I'm like, what do I do with my hands?
your beautiful! I love the natural light in these photos :) and you eyes. You have amazing deep eyes!
Beautiful photos and great color! I do the clenched fists trick when my nails are unsightly too!
I avoid painting my nails exactly because I hate taking it off and I'm not as good at hiding my nails ;) :)
Haha! i'll take this tips, please.. I am seriously not a manicure kind of gal, so this will come in handy!

I polish them... I change my polish pretty regularly so usually I don't have a problem. I'd take it off altogether if my nails didn't look good.
P.S. I’m giving away a pair of really cool sunglasses today, come check it out!
haha, love this. i was actually considering a similar post based on my winter coats, and how i always wear the exact same thing underneath.. okay okay, for at least a couple days anyway (if you're not going into an office, this works extremely well!) people meet you in the street and think you're well dressed under the coast (because they probably are) but the truth is that you are still comfy as can be in your pajamas :)
Haha those are actually some great tips! It's hard to keep your nails looking nice all the time. How do some poeple have a different color of nails in every post!? That is something I just don't understand!

I do the same thing, if and when I actually paint my nails. Nail polish tends to make my nails peel/break really badly after about a week and I HATE using nail polish remover because it makes the problem even worse. So usually I let them get a little chipped and then I end up scraping off the rest with a fingernail while I'm watching a movie or something. Horrible, I know.
hahaha! I love this. The best part is that we are all our own worst critics...so nobody would have noticed the polish had you not said anything anyway...now people will look!
Haha I love it! You are so funny. I honestly wear mine chipped ALL the time. It's bad but I don't even care, not even for blog pictures...oops! I love that color of green and the polka dots together btw :)

Oh boy this is easy for me! My nails are never chipped! The second I see the beginning of a chip the nail polish comes off!

hahaha this was a great post. I hate it when my nail polish is chipping off!! I usually don't paint my nails for this reason lol just my toesies!
Haha I can't even remember how many times I've done this! Too funny. I've actually gotten my skills to the point where I paint my nails on Sunday afternoon, and they last *almost* the entire week without chipping.
Haha great tips! I think that chipped polish doesn't actually show that obviously though. I know that on the occasions that I do paint my nails, and feel really proud of myself for it, and want everyone to see, that they don't show in pictures unless I'm really obvious about it.
Great idea! Why didn't I think of that? :-)
Such a pretty dress! I especially love when dresses have pockets. My wedding dress had pockets :-)
i love this look! I am soooo bad about painting my nails. it either chips or i start scratching it off!
cute dress. no polish for me :)
So many things to consider! How do those big fashion bloggers do it? And yep, forget about the polish... mine's chipped two hours after I do them!
I HEART YOUR STYLE AND YOUR CHIPPED NAILS. And the vintage style dress with the flash of modern blue in your hair--TO DIE (said the reader in her slouchy shirt and bad bra). Im obessed with nails...I've let go of polish and use strips, the Sally Hansen ones at the drug store. Those take even LONGER to chip off.
I am totally like you-- I alternate between a few days of pretty nails and a week (or more!) of ugly nails! But I do love your poses for hiding fingernails. I will have to keep them in mind next time!
I gave up on the nail polish idea. I had gel nails twice and liked them but it is still too high maintenance for me.
These are fun little tricks that still look strangely natural. LOL
I love the dress and the scarf. The green is gorgeous and the cut is very flattering. I'd say I want to borrow it but I think it is about 5 sizes too small for me.

Haha, I do the same thing! It's a good trick. (;
Love your dress! It's absolutely gorgeous!

You look beautiful in green. This is a smart idea, I've never thought of it before. Ever since I started working full time I found that one of the things I have less time for is keeping my nails perfect and it drives me crazy. I've often wondered about this in outfit posts. The only idea I ever came up with was photoshop but I haven't actually tried it- seems a bit impractical!
Haha, I love your tricks! I don't always have time to do my nails for my photos but I don't bother with hiding it. Keeping it real, haha!

Love your tips! I wouldn't have guessed! ;) I don't normally paint my fingernails, but I have for the past few weeks. And yeah, they're always chipped.
LOL..great tips! I rarely do my nails because of the same reason. I am so bad about pedis as well but I never zoom into my toes so I guess that's okay right?

Haha! I'm the same way! I know it's awful to have chipped polish. But I never make the time to take care of it.
Stopping by from All Things Thursday Linkup! I just found these nail stickers from Jamberry. They stay on all week and look amazing! Check them out, so many fun colors!

Ha! I do this too. Less because of nail polish (I don't paint my fingernails, just my toenails) and more because my nails are always a crazy variety of lengths.
Love the green dress (pockets!) with the polka dots. :)
Stopping by for #ThatsFreshFriday!
This is BRILLIANT! What a great idea LOL You look lovely :-)
Pockets are always a must! I like!

Haha! This is so simple, but indeed, clever! I love it! Thanks for sharing this one with Countdown in Style, too! I'll have to hop over and read your guest post! xo
Good tips! I will have to remember those little tricks to keep my nails from showing. I try to do my nails every Saturday. I have learned a little trick to making the polish last longer. I paint the tips of my nails (I have very short nails so I essentially just paint the tips of my fingers lol) and then clean up with polish remover and that seems to help a lot. I also put another top coat on the day after I do my nails. I can usually get almost a week out of them before they start chipping too bad. If they do start chipping and I don't feel like painting them I will just leave them. I can't take off the polish and go bare nails cause I think my hands look weird. lol
I would do the same as you Lena. With super high resolution, you know someone will call you on it otherwise! My solution is easy, I don't take pictures of myself, or only keep it to headshots. LOL. Thanks for sharing and linking up with Countdown in Style! Don't forget to come back on Friday to see if you were featured!
