A Serious Matter: Candy

At a recent Bible study meeting, our leader asked, as an icebreaker question: "What is your favorite candy and what is your least favorite candy?" The discussion that followed was so vibrant and intense and...well...loud, that I thought I'd start the discussion here. At least at the end of this post I won't have to ask, as the leader did, "Now how I am supposed to transition from arguing about candy to the book of Isaiah?"

First Year of Marriage Valentine's Day Gift: Gummy Worms and Sweet Tarts, and two books. Angel's a smart guy.

My top favorite candies are sour gummy worms, SweetTarts, Sour Skittles, and Nerds, but not the purple and pink Nerds, those aren't very good. As you can tell...my weakness is slightly sour candies, not chocolate, though I will be happy to eat Snickers or Riesens if you give them to me.

My medium-appreciated candies are: Jelly Bellies, candy corn, Smarties, Pull'n'Peel Cherry Twizzlers, and Jolly Ranchers.

Least Favorite candies? As in, candies I won't even be remotely tempted to eat even if you put them in my hand? Red Hots (or any version of cinnamon candy), those old-fashioned strawberry-flavored candies in the wrapper that looked like a strawberry (do you know what I'm talking about?), tamarind-flavored Mexican candy Angel always wants me to try, Butterfingers, Butterscotch hard candies, Tootsie Rolls (why do they always throw those at parades?), KitKats, off-brand jelly beans, Dots (those are HORRIBLE!), Milk Duds, Swedish Fish, Gum, and any chocolate not previously categorized.

Do you have any strong feelings toward any particular candy, or are you one of those really tough people who doesn't find any of these empty calories remotely tempting? Spill the details!

I also pass on all cinnamon candies. Not my style. I love gummies and chocolate, but I don't eat candy all the time. Over the years, I've lost my sweet tooth.

Oh man most of your least favorite candies are some of my favorites! I don't even know what tootsie rolls are really made out of, but my gosh I love them haha. It might sound weird but I think my favorite candy would be Raisinets!

I admit I hate candy. Pretty much all candy. I find it all too sweet. It gives me a headache. I am however addicted to quality dark chocolate 75% cocoa or higher. That and any home baked goods are my treats of choice.

haha I love that you refer to them as medium-appreciated candy! I wish I could say I had a least fave, but I will literally eat any candy put within a mile radius of me!

I don't like candy, I don't like chocolate, I don't like sweets at all, any sort of, cake, ice cream, dessert, you name it. Yes I know I am weird.

my favorite AND least favorite candies are gummies. i am super specific when it comes to the kind of gummies i like. trolli brand is my absolute favorite. with sour worms at the very top, and peach rings coming in at a closer second. but i have also picked up some random off brand sour worms at truck stops that tasted like i am eating crunchy battery acid.

I LOVE candy, which is bad because I have horrible teeth, so I really shouldn't eat it. I'd say Gobstoppers and Runts are my favorite. I'm more of a fruity candy person than chocolatey.

I have the worst sweet tooth on the planet...so there aren't many candies I just plain old won't eat. Although have you ever seen those boxes of "Cookie Dough" candy or the "Cinnamon Bun" candy? Those literally taste like hand soap, they're AWFUL! We also bought, for fun, a little bar of peanut-butter and jelly filled chocolate the other day. I won't ever eat that again either.

I think my top two favorite candies, though, are chocolate (but GOOD chocolate...like Theo's or something, not Hershey's) and licorice. Black or red, but black is my favorite.

I am SO with you... I definitely prefer fruity/sour candy over things like chocolate. I'm just not a huge fan of chocolate EVER. Even Reese's... I love them but I only eat the middle. haha

Wait, are you serious? We are almost complete opposites on this. lol First off, I LOVE chocolate. Just not dark chocolate. I LOVE Worther's butterscotch hard candies, I like butterfingers and all the things you listed that you hate. AND I'm not a huge fan of sour candy. There are a few things that I will eat, but usually I avoid them. lol We almost couldn't be more opposite on this if we tried.

Haha, literally made me laugh aloud while eating lasagna

Favorite candy is any kind of gummy! As long as it's red or blue. Only colors I like!

Didn't know candy could lead to such an intense discussion! But my favorites are Twix and anything sour or anything by Haribo hahaha... I don't really have a least favorite - mmm maybe Twizzlers? Or Smarties?

Hehe, it's funny talking about candies had such a big response, I wouldn't picture it causing arguments, haha!

Here in Australia we call candy "lollies". I have to say, anything chocolate based is my favourite. Which works out well for me as hubby likes more savoury snacks and doesn't have a real sweet tooth....I end up getting most of the chocolate to myself! :)

CANDY! Right when I read this I got up and got a candy bar that I had sitting in the freezer that I told myself I wouldn't eat today... I LOVE anything chocolate and I have a new found love for Rolos. But the chocolate has to be frozen....all chocolate bars taste better frozen!!! :)

I wish I was one of those people who doesn't find the empty calories tempting, but I'm not and my dentist is rich because of it. :(

I definitely pass on all cinnamon candy and despise licorice.. I LOVE sour gummy worms too and sour patch kids. I do love kit kats and butterfinger so for shame :P Swedish Fish is good too - I love red/cherry candy lol so Jolly Ranchers: Cherry please!!! Have a great one ;) -Iva

I love tamarind candy! It's so good- but not my favorite. I usually go for a Skor bar or a Butterfinger if I'm in the mood for chocolate- or anything with caramel.

Oh I could say so much!! I LOVE sour gummy worms. I haven't had them in years, but I could eat barrels of them. I know exactly what old fashioned strawberry candies you're talking about and I actually love them, weirdness and all. I also love smarties, starburst, skittles, anything chocolate that doesn't have nuts, and twizzlers.

I despise butterfingers and any and all jelly beans. I just can't do it.

Least favorite- Charleston chews (I OD's on those as a child) and peanut butter taffy (always the last thing in the Halloween bag)
Favorite- almond joy, lindt chocolate, red vines (if I'm watching a movie). :)
I had one bag of sour skittles when they came out... I could barely eat a handful of them, they were so sour! My taste buds have changed because I used to love war heads as a kid. oh well.
