The Weather Outside is...Cold
(We took pictures outdoors since we were all dressed up at the same time. The weather really wasn't all that frightful in spite of the snow, but only because it wasn't windy. A cold wind is a terrible thing. Still, I don't think red satin heels are made for walking in snow.)
Nearly 10 years ago, my Mom sat her children down and said, "We're moving to Malaysia. It's going to be hot. All the time. I don't ever want you to complain about the heat, because--guess what! Everyone else will feel hot too. Everyone is going through the same thing, and it does no good to whine or complain because we can't change the weather."
That little talking-to has really stuck by me over the years. I didn't complain about the tropical weather in Malaysia, and to this day you'll never hear me talking about how the humidity is "killing" me on a Michigan summer's day. My Mom told me to never complain about feeling too hot, so I don't.
However, she neglected to tell me not to complain about being too cold.
Cold, I complain about you.
Besides the fact that I constantly feel on the verge of freezing to death, it has snowed far too much already this year for my taste.
I'm so glad I don't live in Alaska. ;)
Which kind of weather do you prefer, hot or cold?

Clearly, I prefer warm weather, and I agree that a cold wind is an awful thing. However, the humidity can get to be annoying too. I suppose it's better than being frozen solid for 5 months though.
I always used to say that I prefer the cold because at least you can bundle up and be warm where as in the heat there's not much to be done. BUT my mind has changed - I think I prefer the heat, I'm so tired of muscles aching from being tense all day, taking ages to get dressed because there's just so much clothes to put on... heat!!! :D :D :D
I prefer regular--namely Florida Autumn. hhahah, but I'll be honest, during Christmas I miss the cold and the snow. I grew up in Michigan, and the snow was so much a part of the Holiday Experience. Somehow the cold makes the warm more meaningful--you are forced to bundle up with loved ones by the fire. And the sunshine, while lovely, just feels wrong sometimes. But maybe if I were standing where you are in the photo, I would change my tune. Because right now, outside it is early morning and just over 60 degrees.
Thanks for the kind shout-out, my friend! I'm happy to bring you a smile whenever possible. :)
You do the same for me! "Cold, I complain about you." That's funny stuff!
When we're feeling cold, this family likes to bring up Alaska too. It makes us feel better somehow. Poor, Alaska.
That is such a lovely photo of you three. Loving those spiffy red shoes!
I agree…I HATE the cold. I like moderate weather. Not too hot, not too cold. Like Goldilocks.
bisous

I really love your dress/shoes! And you lived in Malaysia? That is incredible!
Since I am from the Midwest, I am used to both cold and heat - but I much prefer the heat:)
I live in Michigan also and I much prefer the cold. You can always put more layers on to warm up on but you can only take so many off. :)
Oh I am so jealous of this snow fall . I may complain a lot abut cold weather but I seriously love me some snow!

haha cold is a different story! hard to handle! we live in california now, so enjoying a little less cold..but excited to see the snow when we go home for christmas! XO
the well-traveled wife ♥
Cute pictures! I love those red shoes:) I'm a weather complainer if it's hot or cold:) I do prefer it being hot to cold, though. Hope you stay warm!
I dislike the cold also!!!!! :P you and your sisters are SO ADORABLE I just want to hug each one of you and jump up and down. O.o
They each have so different styles. Your family is so interesting.....
I complain about the cold to my husband all the time so he bought me this huge rabbit suit thing lol :P and now when I complain he's like.....where is your rabbit suit? go put it on? lol.
You look so pretty! I'd much rather have the heat too.
You look so cute! I think I'd rather be hot, which is probably why I'll never leave California :)
I guess if I had to choose, I'd say I prefer to be hot, as I don't ever feel like I'm way too hot. But I don't like freezing. And sometimes you can wear 3 pairs of fuzzy socks and your toes still don't warm up. I'm not okay with that. You three look lovely in the snow!
You know...you might actually want to come to Sitka for the winter. At least you might have preferred it to Michigan the last few weeks...it was in the low 40's and raining! It just finally started snowing again yesterday. I'll let you know when it stops again so you can come...
NEITHER! Prefer a Balmy 75-80 degrees with low humidity, thank you! Seriously though, I wish I was kidding. I DESPISE being cold, like, right now my toes are frozen, and my little space heater isn't doing much to warm them up (no heat in my office other than my tiny space heater!), but I also hate sweating, and get REALLY cranky when I'm hot. So, I guess if I HAD to choose, I'd choose the cold, because you can only take so many clothes off, but you can always add another layer or a blanket!
I love being hot. Toasty is always preferable to cold for me!

Great photos -- and I complain more about the heat (Florida) than the cold, always. I need a talking-to, I think! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.
I don't mind cold, but I mind snow. More specifically, heavy wet snow. I can always put on layers and drink tea, but sometimes there is just too much snow to get away from it.
I hate being cold too!!! I'm like you - I don't complain about the heat but I definitely complain more than I should about the cold!
Absolutely diggin those red heels! You pull off warmth even though I'm sure it's extra frigid :]
I prefer weather in a 60-80 degree range, with sunshine, and a light breeze. That's not too much to ask, is it?
Love your dress!
I prefer hot. I HATE being cold. People are like, "Put more stuff on then," but I don't want to be weighed down. Hmph.
Despite living in the Midwest for my entire life I've never learned to appreciate the seasons. In the summer I am ALWAYS complaining about the heat. In the winter, I am always complaining about the cold.
I guess I prefer the heat, because at least it's easy to drive in. The cold brings snow which brings bad driving conditions!
i'm bad with weather of both extremes haha. I'm not a fan of humidity but I also hate the cold too. In the winter, I'll say cold is worse, but in the summer I'll definitely say hot is worse. I need to find somewhere with perfect weather!

What an awesome outlook and great advice. But I'm with ya on cold weather. That's why I live in Texas. It's awful and there's nothing worse than getting chilled to the bone. I grew up in PA and don't care to spend another winter there.
The in between so to say ;-) I don't like it too hot (reads triple digits) but I don't like it too cold either, though. The three of you looks gorgeous together Rachel and I have to agree red satin shoes are not made for snow. I suppose no satin shoes are made for snow come to think of it.
happy holidays to you and yours sweetie.

I, too, hate the cold. I like 70-80 degrees sans humidity. Maryland is SOOOO humid but I do love the warm weather. I need to live in Jamaica.
Love the blue streak in your hair! And those red heels are beautiful, even if they weren't too practical outside when you took photos in the snow! :)
I definitely prefer warmer weather, which is good living in Queensland! :) Although the snow does look beautiful and like it would be a lot of fun, I like the sunshine we have at Christmas.
Away From The Blue
I do love that dress because it HAS SLEEVES. Why, oh why, can I never find dresses with actual sleeves? It's winter time. Shouldn't dresses with sleeves abound? It befuddles me. My solution? Find a sleeveless dress and wear a long sleeve shirt under it. That's about as good as it's going to get.
I love this dress on you and that blue streak on your looks sassy...LOVE it!
xo,
Janise
Oh I am so with you! I HATE the cold. And I am always cold. It is horrible. And I lived all my life in the south (which I know is nothing compared to Malaysia) and never even felt the need to complain. It was comfortable. So living in Ohio now is killer.
Yup, I hate and complain abut the cold all the time. and I do like your mother told you; I NEVER complain about the heat!
Love the red shoes in the snow....oxox
Please give me hot weather! I'm always cold as well and I usually have my sweater with me year road (air conditioning is cold).
I adore your dress!
Unless I am laying in a bathing suit on the beach, I definitely prefer being cold over being hot. I figure, you can always bundle up when you're cold, but you can't get more naked if you're hot!
I lived in Ann Arbor for 5 years, after moving from San Antonio. One extreme to the other!! Michigan winters were rough, but the summers were absolutely gorgeous. I miss summers there!
You look adorable!

I love the shoes! They remind me of Dorothy in Oz (in a good way :)). I absolutely hate being cold. It can be scorching hot outside and I will take it over cold weather and snow! I love to look at snow but from my couch in front of the fireplace.
That is great advice about no complaining about the weather. I may use that on my kids one day. Also - cute shoes!
very true words from your mom! i'm also ok with the heat but the cold really gets to me. you all look so lovely all dolled up!
cute & little
Wise words from your mom! I grew up in Hawaii so I was used to humidity until I moved to California. Now whenever I go home to Hawaii, it feels to sticky but I try not to complain in paradise :)
BTW - great photos of all of you all dressed up!

P.S. I am hosting a Kensie giveaway, I hope you stop by and enter.
I was just watching a show where couples were looking for homes in Alaska I don't understand it to be honest. LOL. And some of them wanted to be far far away from everyone. Apparently crime isn't as high there. I'd still never want to live in a place like that. :) You're not alone, dear. I don't like to be cold either.
I love your shoes - really, really great on you. I love your story about not complaining about warm weather. I am really on your side and think it is quite okay to complain about cold weather. I don't like it, too. Thanks for your nice visit at my blog!
Super cute outfit! Perfect for the holiday! And I know what you mean! I grew up in MIAMI in now live in UTAH... I H-A-T-E the cold!!!

Awwww good looking ladies.....love your classic LBD Rachel! Being born in a tropical country....I can live with cold rather than hot! :-)

Such a good point about complaining, it can be hard when it's so stinking cold though! The the pop of red with this outfit!
I can tolerate the cold and extreme heat - however, I prefer Fall. Somewhere in the middle between warm and cool. I think I complain the most when it comes to heat, for cold weather I just bundle up extra layers to tolerate it. Gloves are one of the most important winter accessories for me since I feel the heat escapes the most from there and my feet - so it preserves more body heat if my hands are kept warm :) And I DID review your awards and I was disappointed that I was NOT mentioned - hehe teasing! :P Your sisters and you look adorable - nice outfits ladies! Have a great one Rachel! -Iva
I must say, you are wearing the perfect dress, which is darling with the pop of the red shoes!
I live in Prescott, AZ, a mountain town that has the four seasons, and I like fall the best...not too hot, not too cold.
Occasional snow is great, but I like when it melts quickly!
I agree, though I just lived in Florida for 10 years and probably complained about the heat more than I should have. Now I love in Northern Michigan and it feels normal to me, I don't mind the cold as much since I grew up in it. Plus, the snow is so pretty!
I prefer the hot. But I feel I say I prefer the cold when it's hot, only because Michigan summer's are humid. I'm with you so far on this years winter here in Michigan. I feel we are living in one giant snow globe. Usually It's one or two or three giant snow storm. I love the snow but not the cold. But I feel I cannot complain since I have family in Alaska. Today they were -15F degrees!
Kaitlyn
I like cold. It sucks, but I can bundle up or snuggle into a mountain of blankets. I love your dress, by the way.
Oh dear. I complain about the humidity in Italy! It is like 99% humidity hear in the summer. It's a miracle we don't drown. BUT I don't complain about the cold....ok well that's a lie. The truth is, I don't complain about the cold AS MUCH! I'm lucky, because if I was still living in Canada today would be a -18 kind of day and instead it is just a 0 kind of day (ps I work in celsius!) After reading this post, however, I may just need to stop complaining.
Your mom's speech is too funny! But wouldn't it be great if we all complained about the weather a little less?
I live in South Texas. I haven't been here all of my life, but I love it because our winters are so short. I dislike the heat over 100 degrees during the summer, but sandals, t-shirts, and shorts sure do beat jackets, scarves and boots.
*Stopping in from Pig & Dac's Blog Digest*
I saw this and thought: "Rachel in black?" Then scrolled down to the shoes. You look so pretty! Tell your sister I love her metallic belt as well :)
I would say that I love hot weather...but only if I have access to air conditioning whenever I want! So I would have to say that I prefer it warm - spring or early fall in NY.
I prefer warm weather because you can always drink ice water or eat ice cream, or jump in a pool. But, it is so hard to get warm, especially when you have no body fat to help!
Love the shoes! Seriously, you and your sisters look like twins. I know I've said this a billion times, but it's true. You guys look like triplets.
I complain about the cold, too. I moved to Texas for a reason - we shouldn't have cold!
Haha, I'm the complete opposite! The cold really doesn't bother me too much. It's miserable at times, sure, but I'd much rather be cold than hot. I nearly can't stand heat.
I love the summer :) aww lovely outfit, I love your shoes :) Thanks for linking up to Creative Mondays last week, hope you can join us this week :)
