The Story behind the Clothes

{Angel's brother has a new camera he wanted to experiment with, we were willing models.}

Necklace: Purchased at a mall in Malaysia on our trip last summer.

Shirt: Kohl's. Bought on clearance in winter 2010. I detest cold weather clothes as a general rule, but super bright plaid flannel makes me feel a little more cheerful about dressing appropriately for chilly weather.

Jeans: Kohl's. I bought them because they were Levi's brand on clearance for $11. I can be practical once in a while. Guys, Levi's is my idea of a luxury jean brand. I'm not exactly sure why, but when I was a kid, I decided that when I grew up, I wanted to someday have a pair of Levi's jeans. Now I do. I brought these home, so excited by my great find and the good price, showed them to Angel, and he promptly called them "Mom jeans." That's because the waist on these jeans is slightly high. But even though he disapproves, I love these jeans.

Suspenders: Bought in Malaysia and given to my Dad for his 40th birthday. I think they were a half-serious, half-jesting gift. You know, along the lines of, you're 40, you're old enough that you should be wearing suspenders? He was not particularly impressed. The suspenders knocked around his drawer for a while, he didn't use them, and at one point I asked if he'd give them to me. And let me tell you, real suspenders are WAY better quality than the kind you might find at Hot Topic or a similar type of store. Trust me. Worn here.

Shoes: You've seen these pink sparkly Converse a million times. I first saw them on a trip to the mall right after we were married, and it was love at first sight. I've always loved this style of shoe, but I'd never owned real Converse, so the pricetag of $50 shocked me. Weeks went by, and I still daydreamed about these shoes. I knew they were perfect. Angel said yes, and I know I've gotten a great cost-per-wear out of them in the years since! Worn here, here, here, here, here....yeah, I think you get the idea...

Now there, wasn't that much more interesting (if significantly less helpful), than a list of links of where to buy similar pieces?

I did find that entertaining and very interesting! lol I definitely think the story of how/where we obtain pieces of clothing or jewelry can make for a great story.

This is a fun look you have put together! I like it :-)

I feel like high-waisted jeans get a bad rap. Some of them (yours included) are really cute! I think the dark wash helps out immensely. If those were faded, they might look weird, but I think your jeans look great.

I adore this post! I love hearing the stories behind people's clothes. Especially shoes, I'm always very curious about where people find their shoes and the places they've worn them!

The suspenders and the touch of metallic and pink from the shoes really take this outfit from being just jeans and a plaid shirt.

I could never pull off suspenders! You totally do and you look awesome!

Flannel shirts are awesome. And yessss, Levi's totally is a luxury jeans brand to me too. I've owned one pair once. Cost me a 4-day wage. I wore them for three years. Then Mother Nature decided to sort of give me hips and they got too small. And maybe that was good, because after three years, they had ripped and the dye had faded and they were too short too. xo

You look wonderful. Suspenders make me think of the Eleventh Doctor on "Doctor Who." Which is to say, they make me smile wide and feel nostalgic.

And if I had those sparkly pink Converse sneakers, I'd just stare at my feet all day. They're lovely.
