My parents had to go to Texas for meetings, and it made sense for me to go with them to spend a little time with Angel's family. Still, I put off committing to the trip for as long as possible because I feel like I haven't been at home or with my husband much lately, and I haven't! But Angel really wanted me to go....Michigan's icy weather didn't do a good job of convincing me to stay home...and hey, February was supposed to be a "Month of Adventure" anyway, so I chose adventure over the easy route of staying home.
I was just in Texas for Christmas, so it didn't seem like much had changed, but this particular trip was characterized by:
Playing with my baby nephew!
Shopping with my sis-in-law who's a couponer. Cereal and shampoo and conditioner for free, anyone?
Wearing sandals instead of snow boots. It had to be documented. My feet were free!!
And my parents met my in-laws for the first time ever. It's funny to think about, but Angel and I have been together for nearly 4 years and they had never met because this is the first time my parents have been in the US in all this time. They bonded like only the parents of kids who really, really like each other can do.
On the way home we had an extraordinarily bad transit experience. I've been flying all over the world from a young age, but have never experienced this many problems in one route. If it was weather-related, that would be more understandable, but this was just mismanagement on the part of United. We eventually made it home, no thanks to customer service, but thanks to creative thinking on my grandpa's part, as he looked up flights online that would get us home via an alternate route, and also thanks to Angel, driving out to an airport none of us had been to before to pick us up. We were so happy to be home!

Another Texan adventure for the history books, but I'm glad to be home with Angel now!
What a fun adventure (well minus the travel problems). I had to actually look up the term "snowbird," I didn't know there was a name for that!
What a relief that your parents all get along :D Glad that you got to defrost once again, and let your toes be freeeeee!
I'm jealous of your sis-in-law! I tried couponing for about 6 months in our marriage and never figured out how to get things for free...even after working at Walgreens for a year where I constantly talked to all the couponers who got things for free. haha
Sounds like you had a great time in Texas...minus the flight home! That's crazy that your parents and in-laws finally met! Sometimes ours would do things together and we'd find out about it later which always made me feel awkward as my parents are the polar opposites of my in-laws. haha Its great to hear they get along!
I seriously need to be a snowbird. I told my mom I'm going to start coming to live with them in FL during the winter months and she laughed at me. I don't know why it's so weird to have your 30 year old daughter and her 33 year old fiance/almost husband living with you during the winter months if you live somewhere warm, with a pool, and a beach close by, and an extra room. I mean, that sounds totally normal to me....
It was not until our wedding, did our families meet (4 1/2 years) We were concerned with the language barrier.lol. By that time everyone was so ready for us to get married that when the wedding reception started everyone was laughing, drinking WAY too much and trying to either speak Spanish or English (SO FUNNY). I am glad they were able to meet, that is always such a fun and special moment, glad ya'll made it home safe!

hehee wow! Sounds like quite an adventure! what did the airlines do? So curious! :P
Welcome back. I'm sure you missed all the snow and cold. ha ha.
Bad travel experiences are so frustrating. As least you made it back in one piece.
bisous

Couponers are amazing! I wish I could be that frugal about everything. Alas, I'm really not haha
That's amazing that your parents met for the first time! My mom met my in-laws for the first time when we were planning our wedding. (I'm from Canada, they're from South Africa). I was quite nervous about it, but it all worked out fine and now everyone really loves each other! X Jane http://janeheinrichs.blogspot.com
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Texas! I don't know how you do it up there in Michigan...I think I'm going to freeze to death is it's below 40 degrees outside!
Your sister is a serious bargain hunter, I need to get involved with some coupons!
I can't get into couponing because who goes through that much free cereal and shampoo? I guess I could give it to the food pantry! I am all for beig a snowbird at an early age, minus the travel probs!

Sounds like an awesome trip! It's funny, this Friday marks my boyfriend and I's 4 year anniversary. Our families all live in the same state, but have never met. It's one of those things that I think can either go extremely smoothly, or just a hot mess. Because of that, we're waiting until we get married to have all the families meet haha.
Your February has been so exciting... hoping you get some relaxation at home with Angel soon!
Yay for no snow! (Even if it just for a few days)
Sounds like you had a great time!! Well except for the home traveling thing.
I'm sorry for the terrible flight experience. That always gives me anxiety! Tell you sis in law to teach me how to get that much FREE stuff! Sahweet!
You have cute nephew! And you have awesome sister in law! Gosh, there's like probably months of cereal supplies...
adorable nephew :) sorry the traveling part licked bag :(
and i WISH that my feet could be free! we got another extreme cold weather alert AND we're getting another dumping of snow tonight. joy.

I'm now your newest follower. would love for you to come check me out. and follow back. have a great day.
So jealous of your wearing sandals!!! Ugh! Also, I am so sorry you had such a bad flying experience. Those are the worst!
Cute sandals!
Golden Grahams. Yum.
How fun your parents finally got a chance to meet...and I don't blame wanting to peace out of the cold; enjoy them sandals while you can :)
What a great time to spend with some family! Your nephew is seriously, really sweet. An extreme couponer! I've never been great at using coupons. Definitely something I'll have to work on in the future!
You have such pretty eyes! I'm glad you got some family time in and the couponing looks fun :) Also, it's a good thing you weren't flying American Airlines because things would not have worked out so well...haha Following your blog!
How cool that your in-laws and parents finally got to meet! :-)
I love reading your stuff. Just anything. Your posts are so real, simple and endearing. By the way couponing can be very draining. There is a cost, it's just not money, it is time, sanity among other things.
I love that your parents and in-laws finally got to meet!!! That's so exciting!!!!!!! Also, I love those sandals!!!
I agree with Christina! Couponing is exhausting. I was crazy into it a few years ago. I was pretty good. I once purchased $220 worth of groceries from Harris Teeter for less than $20. Locked up the register and everything. But I was also staying up until 4 a.m. every day clipping coupons by myself. Proceed with caution.
Sorry your flight sucked. You should tweet/facebook the airline. They tend to get more involved when someone airs their grievances publically. Just ask Verizon...
Your nephew is soooooooooo adorable!! Why aren't you and Angel spending enough time?!?!! Work schedule crazy? Glad you made it back ok - bitch at them!! Where do your parents reside? Glad you're back with your hubby! Have a great one Rachel! -Iva
i can't stand bad customer service and inefficiency. glad you finally made it home
i love the picture of both sets of parents together!
