Shirt: a gift courtesy of SammyDress. Exact shirt available for purchase here. I love that my sleeves are two different colors!
Vest: Last fall, I desperately wanted a vest, though I couldn't decide if I wanted a denim vest or a leather vest. Angel and I scoured the mall, and finally found this one at Macy's--the fit and price helped me decide that, indeed, a denim vest was what I wanted after all.
Necklace: Vintage. Ooh, that word! We found a stash of my great-grandma's costume jewelry recently and I pulled this out of it, thinking it was quite perfect in every way.
Jeans: Okay, these are the star of the show. I've blogged about how I don't shop at thrift stores because I can never find anything great that's priced well. This is totally outside the norm. I randomly walked into a thrift store, saw these jeans priced at $5 but hanging on the 25% off rack, and noticed that they were Silver jeans. Now, I'm no brand snob, but even I know that Silver is a decent jeans brand. The quality was great, condition perfect, they fit like a dream, and they have that amazing seam down the front, so I bought them for a grand total of $3.98. I actually found something worthwhile in a thrift store. Aren't you impressed with me? I'm guessing by the style that they are probably fairly old, but I'm not sure when flares without back pockets were in style. I seem to vaguely remember them. 1999? Early 2000s, maybe? I don't care, I'll bring them back. Who says we have to wear skinny jeans all the time?
Shoes: My beloved cowboy boots. They were my Christmas present from my parents back in 2008. This outfit already had a bit of a Western theme to it so I figured I just had to add the boots.
Headband: I've already told you the story of the cat ears--Angel bought them for me.
And yes, I am in fact standing on a pier overlooking frozen Lake Michigan. There ought to be water behind me but, nope, it's definitely ice!

I think you're right about when those jeans hit the scene. Silver jeans were the only jeans I ever wanted, and I'm pretty sure I had that same exact style with the inverted seam down the middle of the front pant leg. I don't have them anymore because they wouldn't fit, but I still like them! Although I do love skinnies, I think you could bring anything back! :) and I do love that vest!

The two different sleeves make that top so cool! I wear my denim vest often and have had it for years...it's super versatile. And great score on the jeans!

You look so fun in that first photo. And I thought that was a Denim Vest. So cool that it's a Jacket with two different sleeves. I cannot wait to wear my Denim Vest soon. =)
Happy St. Patrick's Day!! <3 Ada.
W-O-W at the jeans price! What a bargain!
Super find! Haha you are right, I remember wearing jeans very similar to that around 2000. They look great on you!
i fully support poppin' tags at thrift shops. people look down on it but hell, if you can find good clothing that fits for under $5, then you're a moron if you don't like those kinda prices.

I remember a friend had those kind of jeans and I was so jealous! They look great :)
Adorable! I love pants with front seams, and twisted seams and other unique designs. And I agree on the skinny jeans haha. I do have a few pairs, but I've never given my flairs up :P
:) great deal on the pants! Thank you for your Croc-pot recipe suggestions. I will try them.
Thrift stores are my jam! No shame!!! Buying things full price is painful for me. ;)
xx
I rarely find good items in the thrift store either, but one time at a Fossil Brand outlet, I found a pair of killer jeans for $5. They were dark wash and fit like a dream. They no longer fit, but that remains the best deal I ever found!
Great find! Thrift stores are really hit or miss. Any little thrift stores tend to be a little overpriced compared to chains like Goodwill. I feel like jeans are especially difficult to find so great work on that! Your denim vest is the perfect finishing touch :)

Exploring My Style
You are right about thrift stores. I never seem to have any luck, but everyone else I know sure does. I am really thinking of visiting them though after we buy our house. New décor is just too pricey, especially to look so old. I'm thinking I can get the same look, but more reasonably priced if I try our thrift stores.
I never find anything good at thrift stores either. At least not the crappy Goodwill near me. We did just recently get a Salvation arm but I haven't ventured inside yet.
Btw--I can't believe that is supposed to be Lake Michigan behind you!
What a steal on those jeans!! I've only found a few great items from Thrift stores. I do like the ones that are vintage that I came across in Europe.. I have some great finds from there!
Yay for jeans at that awesome price! And they look great on you. Love the vest, too!
I refuse to wear skinny jeans. I'm waiting until they go away. They will eventually. Everything always does.
I'm so proud of you! You found a pair of jeans at the thrift store! And they fit! yay! This past Saturday, I FINALLY got to wear a dress that I found at the thrift store. My mom thought it was new and I got a lot of compliments on it. I like it ALOT!
Wow all that snow, we not had any this winter :( great buy :) I remember having some jeans like yours I loved them and wore them out...
Holy moly! Those jeans are just perfection on you! SO glad you lucked out, girly!
I didn't know you lived near Lake Michigan! We used to live right on the lake in Milwaukee, but when we bought a house we moved a few more miles inland. I miss being so close to the lake, it's so pretty no matter the season! I love that top! It's so cool with the different colored sleeves! And thrift shopping is amazing, I've found lots of good deals!
Oh my goodness! Weren't you freezing?? lol I love the whole outfit though. Those jeans are perfect. I read the title and saw the pictures and tried to guess what item was from the thrift store. I did NOT guess the jeans.
in chicago for st. patrick's weekend? you're a lucky lad indeed :) haha, pun not intended, but worked so keeping :) i like the vest!
I refused to wear skinny jeans for years after they were first popular. But you're tougher than I am. I eventually decided they looked good on me and changed my tune. haha!
Holy crap, I can't believe that lake is frozen!!! I have fond memories of summer vacations at Lake Michigan. What a steal on those jeans!
Dang, those were a steal! You made out like a bandit!!! I like the seam down the middle a lot!
I really enjoy the denim on denim with the pop of your sweater! I have seen so many people going to the thrift store, I think I should try it out! Love the finds you found, and those cat ears headband--So cute! You look darling!
You look cold!! :) Doesn't look like spring is coming there anytime in the near future.
Love the jeans! I'm still wearing flares. I would say they were "in" from about 1999 to 2005... or so. :)
Love the jean vest!!
Cute vest, and love Silver jeans! You got them for a steal :)
nice flare jeans!

Wow, Rachel.. those jeans! They make you look so tall and your legs look mile long! I wish I could explore some thrift store which is impossible as there is no such a thing here in Dubai!

you rocked that outfit! I have a hard time being brave enough to wear denim on denim...I'll just refer to this when I need inspiration ;)
I've never tried shopping at thrift stores. I may have to go exploring!
adorable!
omigosh I used to have a pair of jeans JUST LIKE THAT! But they weren't this fancy Silver brand you are speaking of. What a rad find at the thrift store, dude! HIGH FIVE FOR AWESOME DEALS, WAHOO!
But yeah, those jeans = awesome. I am not a jean wearer at all (lI literally own zero jeans it's abitpatheticyeahbut) and I would sport those. And your two toned shirt is snazzy as well. Rock on!
That shirt is neat! I don't think I have ever seen one with two different colored sleeves like that. All the thrift stores around me are scary, but I need to try thrifting in Columbus because some of my friends have made some great purchases there!
Nice! I like that jacket. I've never quite seen one like that, but it's pretty cool. I'm new to thrifting and LOVE it! I think it depends on where you live. When I was in Kansas and Kentucky, the thrift stores were something straight out of a horror movie. Once we got to Charlotte, that's when the real fun began.
The quality is insane. I'm talking Kate Spade, Gucci, Vera Wang, for $3. Not that I give a hoot about name brands, but the quality is amazing! I miss the one we used to live by, but I've found a few nice ones in Raleigh already. If you haven't already, you should try looking online for some local thrift stores. I'm not sure how small your town is, but maybe you could find some good ones in the area around your town???
I totally remember having jeans like that! Though not Silver of course, awesome find!
funny how a simple necklace like that just POPS! It's honestly my favorite part of the whole outfit!
Absolutely fantastic find!!! Love the eclectic feel of the two different sleeves of the top. Very unique.
Lovely double denim, and what a great thrift store find! I never have much luck thrifting, but it's the little finds like your awesome jeans that make me keep looking now and then, eventually the search pays off! :D
I had a similar pair of jeans with the seam down the front, but they were black, and I remember wearing them for the first time to a party in 2003, so yep, early 2000s sounds about right! :D
Away From Blue
I adore shopping at Goodwill and Savers (two thrift stores in my area). Granted, it takes patience and a good eye (a little brand knowledge doesn't hurt either, though I'm no brand snob) and I don't always leave with a purchase - I'm pretty selective. But I do love a bargain! Denim especially is a great second-hand buy - it only gets better with wear and age! So brava! Those jeans are fab-u-lous (please read that with a higher than normal, sing song voice)! Just yesterday I found a Ralph Lauren Polo dress shirt for Darling Husband for $10! Squee!
Happy Saturday SITS Sharefest!
I don't seem to find all the treasures that some people do thrift shopping, but every once in awhile I'll pop in a store and get lucky! Love these cool jeans! My last find was a Lanvin scarf for $5. I still haven't figured out how to style it though.
$3.98 for a pair of jeans is an awesome deal! Great thrifting find!
I've never found something worthwhile at a thrift sore, so I'm impressed! But then again, I haven't been in one for quite awhile. Plus I'm not sure I could get over the fact that I'd be wearing a stranger's clothes. Maaaaaybe I'll try again :)
Such a cute look! I've found a few gems at the thrift store too. (I've finally figured out which locations have the best stuff.)
Rachel, hi!!!!! It's Courtney again from The Brown Girl with Long Hair blog. I absolutely LOVE thrift store shopping so it was a no-brainer to click on your square during today's SITSgirl ShareFest...and I was so happy that my choice once again led me here! (I am now following you via Google Friends Connect now, too.)
Congrats on your finds! You look great!
If you get a moment, take a look at my latest blog post, it's about a certain kind of fashion...for less...I think you will be able to relate.
Have an awesome weekend!
Great thrifted find, I am always at GW Boutique and refuse to pay full retail ever again! This is a great post - thanks for sharing it at the SITSGirls Sharefest!
So cute! Love a good thrift store find.
