A big part of getting ready to move, for us anyway, has been figuring out what to do with our stuff and saying goodbye to friends and family. This past week we headed out on a road trip to Texas to accomplish both of those tasks for Angel. We loaded the car up with Angel's tools, which he bequeathed to his younger brother, Angel's mementos (it turns out that his parents are a little more attached to all of his running medals than he is), and headed out. This time, we accomplished both 18-hour treks with only necessary stops, and no overnights anywhere (because who wants to pay for a motel when you could just drive all night?).
We were in Texas for 5 days, and of course we packed a few adventures in!
The Bear hung out in the back seat. I kept checking on him, but even though it was an 18 hour trip, he never slept!
Once we arrived, Angel's mom had to take a selfie with the Bear, of course. I mean, wouldn't you?
Angel got to try out hiking with a baby in tow, carrying our 6 month old nephew Noah in the baby carrier as we explored Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
I love this picture, because I look clumsy, Brittany looks worried, and Angel looks like, "Watch Rachel fall!"
We went kayaking, and Angel caught an (already dead) fish in his hands and was very proud of himself. Boys!
We also took a day trip to San Antonio, to check out the Alamo and the famous Riverwalk. It was a 4 hour drive there and 4 hour drive back, but Nestor did all the driving. Noah, Angel, and I slept a good chunk of the way.
See? This is my answer to Angel's instagram captioned: "Rachel was sleeping while I woke up!"
Many conchas were eaten. Not by me however. I don't like conchas. I also don't like donuts. You can probably tell by Angel's smile that he does not feel the same way.
We also got to go to a 1st Communion party, eat Angel's Dad's steak, and play Just Dance until we were all worn out. Now we're back in Michigan, here to stay until July 23--our leave date! No biggie, just less than 8 weeks away already...
Aww these photos were nice, and will be memorable. Reading that you had to pass things off to family members made it all to real that you guys are leaving. Wow! Rachel
so close! looks like you guys had fun. praying for you!
What fun! And how exciting!!! You have an actual set date for leaving.
bisous

Looks like a great time was had by all! :) So glad you are getting to spend some quality time with loved ones before you leave. 8 weeks! It'll be here before you know it!
What a fun roadtrip! I love that photo of you guys on the rocks - your nephew is too adorable!
Goodbye's are hard for me, sounds like you had a great trip though! I have never been to Texas but may get to in December. Once in China, will you get to come home at all to visit even once a year?
What a special time together! :) Enjoy every last minute!
Such a fun roadtrip! We're going to Texas next week. All 8 of my family. In our 8 passenger Suburban. Yay.
There are so many awesome things to explore in Texas (that's where we just came from!) but it looks like you accomplished a pretty good list of them
Angel's mom taking a selfie with the bear hahahaha.
Jim and I honeymooned in San Antonio and stayed on the riverwalk. I thought the Alamo was so hilarious. It's just smack dab in the middle of civilization. There's like a Mcdonalds across the street lol.
Wow, that's a lot of driving! I'm glad to see that you guys (or at least, Angel) were able to do some sleeping in the car.
I googled conchas, and now I want to try one. Like, RIGHT NOW! Yum!
That seems like it was a great trip! Angel carrying his nephew around reminded me of my hubby carrying his nephew around on a trip last year. It seems so easy at first because it's a light little baby, haha, but he was sweating soon!

Looks like an awesome trip!! That bear!!! LOVE :)
I feel like I haven't read your blog in forever! I loved seeing all the pictures--looks like you two had a great time. And I love that little bit of blue in your bangs!

That's quite the awesome trip you guys had :) I can't believe Angel was able to hike so easily with your nephew on him!! I went canoeing this past weekend and it was NOT the best experience - especially because we flipped over, I was NOT happy. Lol. Donuts? I'd be smiling with Angel. Lol :) Glad you guys are back home, enjoy the few moments!! Have a great weekend Rachel -Iva
Oh it's so nice that you were able to squeeze in so many awesome adventures with family before saying goodbye for a little while. It looks like a lot of fun!
That sounds like such a great trip. Your nephew is adorable by the way. I like donuts, but donut holes are MUCH better. There is always a battle for the powdered sugar crumbs in the bottom of the bag. :)
What a fun trip!! I have to say, that picture of Angel wearing the baby and you standing next to him...no hurry obviously but you guys are going to make cute parents one day. :)
I had to google "conchas". I still don't really know what they are.
Looks like a wonderful trip, I love the bear that's awesome
And the caption for the picture of Angel hiking with the baby is awesome!
Ah, you drove through the night? We always plan on doing that…it never happens.
What a fun trip!!
ahhh we use to just drive through the night whenever we did a road trip....we tried that this Christmas with a baby..it didn't work out so well. We were all so tired and miserable. Not doing that again!
haha, caught a dead fish...lovely! Excellent job =) I love that your pictures all look so happy! That's the best.
I'm glad you had fun down my way in Texas! I love the Riverwalk, it is so pretty at Christmas when they string lights in all the trees.
That sounds like quite the trip! But no donuts? I LOVE donuts. Too much. I was just thinking about them today because I knew I was near a Krispy Kreme.
I love long crazy road trip adventures too. You know those ghost stories where there's a serial killer lurking in someone's backseat just waiting to stab them to death? Yeah, that's what the bear head in the backseat looks like to me. Soon... :(
I don't know what a concha is but if it's donut related I think I could be very good friends with one!
WHAT?!
You're leaving us??? And the Great Lakes State? Sigh. Well, I guess I have no say in the matter...
Damn. This sucks. Admittedly, I haven't visited you in a while (what with the arrival of nice weather, I am woefully behind with my blog reading...) But, I always think of you as a Michigan SITS-ta...and then I read this post, which is like a bucket of cold water to the face. I'm happy for you guys, though. I truly am. Moving is so adventurous and fun to me.
The photo of you guys at the Alamo took me back, as I hadn't been there -- or to the Riverwalk -- since Christmas of 1995, when I was a fresh at the University of Michigan, when our football team played in the Alamo Bowl, and my family and I went down for the game.
Nice post, Rachel. And congrats.
Your Texas adventures sound so fun and filled with warmth. I liked how some of the pictures made me laugh.
PS: Angel's mum look so young!

Wait. Please tell me your eye makeup matched your hair.
YOU DON'T LIKE DONUTS?!
Oh my...could your nephew be any cuter with that little hat?! And what??!! You don't like donuts??? Oh, Rachel...

Eight weeks?!?! That seems too soon!
Your trip looks like fun and I'm glad you could make it to see Angel's family before your new adventure!
bahahaha and THAT is the photo of a proud man who loves his conchas. I had no idea what those even were before this post. You teach me so much! ;) Also, it's okay to not like donuts--I DON'T EITHER! I never did and I don't understand the appeal of slimy circular bread with holes in them. I mean, the description of them just sounds gross. Total ew, bro.
Looks like a fun road trip! I hope you enjoy your last few weeks in Michigan. What an adventure it must be to completely change your surroundings!
oh goodness, the move is starting to seem very, very real! love that angel's mom got a selfie with the bear :)
Rachel, moving is so hard. I have done it more than once (2 huge moves under my belt, so far). But you will do great. How long will you and Angel be there for? Have you looked at homes there? It is hard to do while living very far away, I know.
Always love when you stop by. Thanks and enjoy this new week and month and enjoy your family and friends to the max!! <3 Ada.
you guys didn't travel through amarillo did you? :(
you guys hiking with the baby is so precious. also, i've only been to texas once...such a great trip. and we did go to the alamo!
