Husband's Opinions on Skirts
I've often heard it said that men generally aren't nearly as enamored with certain fashion trends as women seem to be, however, most men I've known don't seem to have any opinions on fashion in general. Angel, however, has strong opinions.
I've learned that the biggest area where I can go wrong (in his opinion) when getting dressed is in skirt style. Angel detests equally:
High-waisted pencil skirts (we've talked about this one before)
Skirts with high-low hems
Floor length skirts
That really leaves me with only straight or full-cut skirts slightly below knee-length or shorter on the the approved list. The skirt I'm wearing in the pictures I've had since I was 15, and I don't think it's coming to China because Angel audibly groans every time he sees me wear it (anyone wants to give him a basic lesson in "Things you don't say to your wife"?). If I really, really love something in my wardrobe, and if Angel doesn't like it purely because it does not match his particular sense of style, I'll generally still wear it but out of the kindness of my heart I try to avoid wearing it when we're hanging out together. However, this is fairly impossible when he's the one assigned to take my outfit photos.
This road goes both ways, though. There are certainly styles that I really don't like to see Angel wear and he does occasionally wear them--so I think there's balance in the relationship. My top three most-detested articles of men's clothing are:
Muscle Shirts
Cardigans
Flip-Flops
Have you ever discovered that your husband has a random aversion to very specific clothing styles or trends? Which ones? Are there any clothing items for men that you just aren't a fan of?
P.S. Tradition demands that I link up this rebelliously stylish post to Joanna and Deanna's blogs for "Sprummer Fashion Week". It's all the rage, so I'm sure you've heard of it.

I hate men in capri type pants, just seems so very wrong.
I agree on men's Capri pants. I also don't get shirts that are cut in under the bust like maternity shirts. I think they make everyone look pregnant. I do love that skirt though!
Hahaha Men are Fun. They should leave women's fashions to their women. I too have Muscle Shirts on men with the exception of the beach and/or working out. Your maxi skirt has character and suits your style. My husband usually doesn't say much about how I dress however sometimes he has strong opinions on a certain outfit.
Happy Monday Rach!
I meant to say *hate Muscle Shirts.
men in cardigans. gah. reminds me of my grandad.
wow! My husband has a strong aversion, I found, to those printed shirts with the same print all over it. He says they make his vision go wonky. Hahah. Like the latest trend of wearing a shirt with chevrons all over it. He has told me over and over again that he hates this, lol.
I've been wearing a plain knit maxi skirt nearly every weekend since summer started and my husband refers to it as my "Duggar skirt." So I think that means he doesn't like it but it's so comfy and other women compliment it all the time! He also hates statement jewelry, especially necklaces. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks you can respect your husband's opinion but think he's totally wrong at the same time!
Ha! I love this skirt on you:) I think it's harder for guys to keep up with what is fashionable for women, since they aren't looking at the same magazines or reading the same blogs as us. I've asked my husband a few times about what I'm wearing, and he says he doesn't really get it:) Oh, well. At least we like what we wear, right?
I'm the same way as far as trying not to wear the "least favorites" when Josh isn't around. I still enjoy some things that he doesn't so by golly I wanna wear them. ha. I actually found out not too long ago that the shirt I wore the day we met he HATED! hahaha.
Hmmm, I can't think of anything particular that my husband detests, except for high-heeled shoes...he's of the firm belief that I should be wearing shoes that are comfortable to walk in! So if we're going out for the day I definitely wear sneaks or boots. If it's just dinner I'll still wear the heels, but I'll throw another pair of shoes in the car so if we decide to do something else on a whim after we eat, I can change into more comfortable walking shoes. :)
I hid my ex's jean shorts. Luckily, J doesn't have any. Although I did hide his Affliction sweatshirt.
Uh, I hate flipflops, but thankfully Justin wears Nikes only. One thing my husband wears drives me crazy- his jeans. I love that he wears jeans all of the time, but I hate how large they are on him. He pulls them up constantly and complains about it, but will not wear a belt. The size below what he wears now is too tight though. I've yet to solve this problem, but I am thinking. The only thing he has complained about me wearing are some of my old strapless tops (the baby doll tops that are long and were a big deal about 4 years ago). I wear them at the house, but no where else.
I think you look great in that skirt… I don't see anything wrong with that cut/style- it is very flattering on you!
My husband is the most fashion oblivious husband in all time and space, but he tries to compliment. :)
Haha that's hilarious - Angel and his opinions! I don't rock floor length skirts unless I'm wearing a maxi dress; and I only approve a limited amount of them! Pencil skirts are my favorite :D Either way, you look adorable and you're his wife so he'll take it :D Men in flip flops is not okay lol Have a great one Rachel!-Iva
HAH! My husband has some of the same opinions :) I could easily wear skirts 100% of the time...but that would def not be his choice for me! I do the same thing - try and meld what he prefers and what I love. Lets see for guys - I hate it when they where higher socks (i.e. like the ones that come past your ankles) with shoes. I also can't stand the skinny jean look on guys - really, if his pants are tighter than mine I have a problem.... (btw I totally thought you looked adorable in that pencil skirt!)
I know that when me and my husband were dating, he loved me wearing dresses or skirts, the length had to come to the knee but if I wore something he didn't like, he didn't make much hoop-to-do about it. And still doesn't. Now if I ask him, he may have an opinion but not a very strong one especially if I say I like it, then he'll just shrug his shoulders and move on :) On a much personal note, in our first year of marriage, I thought I would wear some cute lingerie and he came home and asked why I was wearing it. I thought he would like it. Though he appreciates the effort but he is just fine with sweats and a tshirt or nothing ;)
When we first got married, I had two or three fleece vests I liked to wear on occasion...he hated them. Said I looked like I was wearing a uniform or like there should be a store name printed on them...haha. So, I got rid of them. I wasn't that attached to them in the first place so it wasn't that big of a deal, but I still like to tease him about it occasionally. Other than that, I don't think there's anything I wear that he hates...or he at least won't tell me!
I agree about muscle shirts! Unless he is ACTUALLY working out, they're ugly. (Thankfully Isaiah has never worn these). I do like cardigans on men...the more grandpa-esque the better. Flip flops...it depends on the guy and the location. Isaiah hates them though so I never have to worry about this.
I'm not sure if there are any men's styles that I really truly hate...although I agree with all the previous comments on men's capri pants. If they're just long shorts, fine...if they're ACTUAL capris...no. Just, no.
I think men in general hate trendy things. Sean is right there with Angel on the hi-lo skirt, but the pencil and floor length are classics!
My husband is so fashion-oblivious that he doesn't really dislike anything I wear, although he loves it when I wear skirts (he doesn't care about the length or the fit--I think he just likes seeing some leg lol). The only trends he has aversions to are some men's fashions like men's capris (we jokingky call them 'manpris'), and he himself refuses to wear sandals or any kind of footwear with which he can't wear socks. He loves his socks. Even in 95 degree weather.
Ooh, I love that outfit Rachel! Looks great on you...too bad Angel isn't a fan of it.
Ha! I love that skirt! My husband has very very strong opinions of women's fashion. He thinks booties look like something a pirate would wear and he doesn't approve of purple. Most of his ideas match with mine, so luckily we're mostly in agreement :)
Well I can say that Angel needs style help because you look gorgeous in that skirt! I LOVE it! The details are so unique and pretty.
I don't care for guys wearing muscle shirts either unless they look like this guy http://iconicphotos.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/sc19845-fpxobjiip1-0wid400cvtjpeg.jpeg?w=700
oops...I just noticed he isn't wearing a shirt at all. Ha ha! My bad ; ) I still love that photo.
My hubby is pretty good about what I wear. He can be a bit testy about me showing too much skin though.
bisous

I love a man in a cardigan!
Ahh luckily Jim doesn't complain about my clothing too much, though I know he doesn't like my oxford shoes. Usually he'll only tell me that he doesn't like something if I ask him about it. Smart man haha.
I hate when guys wear sandals... they have ugly ass feet! haha
The skirt is so pretty.
I agree with Amanda: men in sandals just look funny to me. My husband refuses to wear them.
Augh, did my comment not publish?
I guess it really depends on the type of dude. Some guys can wear tank tops and not look like they're trying to show off their muscles as much as they can, but other guys do it and their muscles scream for attention, hahaha. I guess I'd be able to better answer this question when I'm married, but really, if someone wants to wear something then I say let them wear what they want! Except for Uggs. I will not excuse those horrid things.
Don't forget speedos! Usually the man wearing them shouldn't be.
Isn't it funny the things guys tend to care about!? Haha it is funny to see what fashions they have a very strong opinion on!

I think this is hilarious. My husband likes outfits of mine that show off my "curves" (which before I was pregnant, I didn't really have any, which is why I guess he liked outfits like that)
My husband Rob is way more into clothes than I am. He often goes shopping and texts pictures of clothes for me to choose from. lol It's like having my own personal shopper. He has picked out jeans for me and they fit perfectly! It was miraculous!
When he would wear a suit, he used to wear his pants juuuuust a little too high. He doesn't anymore though.
P.S. This is Haley from Truth Be Told. I juuuust realized that I'm on my husband's account! Silly rabbit.
Unfortunately for me, Mr. A dresses just like his dad. Always in polo's. And not even the good looking ones. I mean the annoying golf polo's. The ones made out of that spandex-like material. Drives me nuts. A big part of me wants to trash all those polo's while he's away, but then that would just leave to a massive fight when he gets back. So for now, I'm just forced to stare at them every time I walk into our closet. ugh...
I think you look super cute in that skirt! My biggest man clothing pet peeve is probably skinny jeans or the look I've seen some wear with slim-legged jeans with high top sneakers with the tongue out... just not a fan. Okay, but what most stood out to me - - - you can still wear a skirt you wore when you were 15?!?! (that's almost 15 years ago for me, and I cannot fathom, lol) :)

I love your entire outfit, but I don't know if I could wear something if my husband didn't approve (me personally- you look fabulous!). On men, I hate skinny jeans or super baggy pants. I wish all men would just wear tailored suits! Life would be so much easier then!
I mentioned to my husband that I liked the jumpsuits that are popular now and he groaned. I showed him some and he gave me his answer that he always gives if he doesn't like something. You can wear what ever you want to wear.
I hate his shirts from the 90s that he still wears. He has cut back on wearing them so much to make me happy.
I really like that skirt you've had since you were 15! I don't know if I've ever seen a skirt cut like that. Seems odd to me that your husband would dislike it so much.
My husband and I aren't too picky about clothing, luckily. I have a few things he's not a fan of, and vice versa, but for the most part we don't analyze each other's outfits too closely. (Unless we're going to some sort of formal event.)
