This, or some variation of this, has long been one of my favorite outfits. I call it "The Flower". Get it? Green jeans make the stem, and a coral shirt makes the flower. Perfection.
I was dressed like this, attending Angel's 5K this weekend, when a lady walked up and introduced herself and said she read my blog. Now, bloggers, be honest--doesn't the prospect of being recognized by a blog reader while you're out and about give you a thrill? You hear of it happening to others, and you don't say it, but you kind of secretly wish it would happen to you someday? Either that or the prospect of being recognized as the author of what you write online completely freaks you out. There's two sides to the issue--I identify myself with the first side.
I never really expected to run into another blogger in West Michigan, though. It's not as if this region were a true hotbed of bloggers. So let me give a shoutout to Bernadette of Barefoot Hippie Girl who, even though focused on running 3.1 miles that morning, happened to spy me and had the guts to come up and say hi! I'm not great at recognizing people from pictures (something about 2D versus 3D)...if I thought I saw a blogger I would probably just assume it was someone else who bore a startling resemblance to said blogger. Bernadette said, "You have a pretty distinctive way of dressing!" so possibly it's easy to recognize someone who talks excessively about her beloved green jeans and sparkly pink shoes.
As for the husband, he ran 5Ks the past two Saturdays. In the first he ran 20:04 (75th place overall), so he didn't quite break 20 as he was hoping. However, on the race this weekend he ran 19:34. But this race had a lot more serious runners than the last one, so even though he was faster he only got 99th place out of 1,135. Still not close to his 16:35 personal record from years ago but he was happier about these times than he was at his last race! Love my speedy husband!
Post-race, ignoring my camera...
Have you ever randomly run into a blogger in real life? Do you think you could recognize someone offline if you weren't expecting to see them?
and Have you been running any races lately?
Wow! I couldn't even imagine running a 5k in either of those times...go Angel!!
I once ran into someone I "knew" from the internet on a random day at Kohl's. We recognized each other pretty quickly, actually.
I think I see people all the time. Like one time I saw LL Cool J at the Atlanta airport. The Hubs didn't believe me. But it was him.
It would tickle me to death if someone recognized me from my blog! Go Angel for rocking the 5K!
wow, Angel looks INTENSE! That is really really awesome that he runs. And his time is great!
I think that's amazing you ran into another blogger. Or rather she ran into you. I get butterflies just thinking about it. If that happened to me I'd smile all day!
That's so awesome! :) You do have a unique look - I am pretty sure I'd recognize you in public :) Although, with you leaving the states shortly not likely to happen anytime soon! Congratulations to Angel for yet another race completed! Have a great one Rachel! -Iva
Hey! You wore green and pink too! Great minds think alike! LOL And those shoes are adorable! :)
Congrats to Angel! He is FAST! And how fun to run into a blog reader!
Wow he is fast! I got to meet some of my favourite fitness bloggers at my first marathon expo.
i've never randomly stumbled upon a blogger, however....peppy is an accountant and he was on the phone one day with a lady from the bank. they started talking about stuff and she realized who he was and told peppy that she reads my blog. :)
I would probably think the same way you would, that it probably wasn't who I thought it was. So it's cool that she came up and introduced herself, how fun! And yay for Angel, those are super fast times!
Wow, he is a serious runner! Even when I was running regularly, I would have been excited to break 30 min!
Yay for Angel's running! I would be horrified if someone recognized me. I hope I am small enough that I can keep pretending everyone who reads are just existing online :)
That is great, Rachel! Honestly, I would probably just go crazy trying to figure out why that person looked so familiar and then a few days later jump up and down with excitement (and relief) as I figured out who it was. :)
If someone ever recognized me from blogging, I'd be the second type of person. I would completely freak out! I guess that's why I remain anonymous. Seriously though, I don't know what I would do. Probably turn bright red and then hide behind a tree or something. Congrats to Angel, he is speedy!
Awesome. I would totally come up and say hi if I saw you in GRap.
I would love to be recognized but you're totally right - if I recognized someone else, I would just freak out inside and never say anything!
That is so cool that someone "knew" you!
I have not been approached like that before. I'd probably start giggling like a moron.
On Friday I ran into someone who's blog I follow! It was awesome! <3
Good job Angel!! I have met 2 other bloggers in real life...though it feels odd/surreal; its a good reminder they too are just people behind a screen:)
Way to go to your husband! I would love to be able to run something that spectacular.
I have never been approached as a blogger out and about, and I really wouldn't expect to be. I do read a few blogs from Nashville bloggers and since I travel that way kind of often, I might one day run into one of them. I don't think I would be the person with enough guts to say hi though. :-)

That happened to me last summer! A girl approached me at an event and introduced herself. I had seen her blog before, so I recognized her too. It completely made my day.
I've never run into a blogger in real life, nor has anyone approached me (that I didn't already know). I probably would kinda freak out, but that's awesome that it totally delighted you! :) Yay!!! What a small world! :)
hahaha. that's awesome!! What's funny is I would have to ask for the blog name after their first name. I'm the same with celebrities. I need to know the movie they're most famous for after I heart their first name. ha
Bahahaha... "flower girl"... I love it!
I have never run a race in my life and doubt I ever will, ahaha! :P
That's so cool! I'm glad she introduced herself to you. I probably would have too- just to say hi, you know?
I've never run anything my whole life. I'm not a runner, unless I'm being chased by zombies.
You're a celebrity! Haha that's so fun. I saw a blogger I used to follow at the grocery store a few weeks ago . . . But recognized her too late. Oh, well. Haha :)
That's so cool that someone recognized you from your blog!!
I love the 'flower' outfit! I think I would very much recognize a blogger if I saw them in real life. I would most likely be insecure about IF it were the blogger I thought it was but I would definitely say hello and of course, ask for a picture for my blog.. ;) (Because I know she'd understand!)
And Angel looks super sophisticated 'ignoring' the camera......!
How fun to have someone recognize you! Great job on the 5k's to hubby. Love your colorful outfit!
Kudos to Angel! That is a brilliant time! I'm working on getting under 29 minutes...then again he is what...less than half my age? So I won't beat myself up over it.
I have seen 2 bloggers in real life. Sadly they weren't the kind I felt like going up to and saying hi. Some bloggers I would. Like you, I would. Because you blog is quite personal and you write about all kinds of weird and wonderful things. Other bloggers are more commercial and only about fashion or food and if they aren't "putting themselves" out there with their personalities I don't really feel like connecting with them in the real world. Maybe they come across as less of a friend, I'm not sure.
bisous
Suzanne
That's so cool that she recognized you! And go Angel for his awesome 5K time!
super fun color combo!
That is so awesome! When I lived in Florida I actually saw a blogger that I used to follow with her husband but I didn't have the guts to talk to her. I was so enamored by her work I thought it would be silly to say hi. Plus at that time I wasn't doing a whole lot of blogging myself and felt a little bit like a creepy. If it happened today, I would jump on the chance.
Yep. You're a clever flower-child, in your own, individual sense! So cute, easy and with enough polish and consideration to make it an outfit !
Congratulation on being "sighted". I have about 2 readers in our area. Many more in other places. Arkansas is not really a style-bloggy spot. No surprise!
Isn't it wonderful to know that online community is real! My first time here & I am happy to "meet" you through the SITS :) Have a great weekend!
What an awesome feeling! I think I may have been a bit freaked out at first but that is really a great thing. I don't think I would recognize another Blogger immediately. I would probably do a quick profile pic check on my phone to be certain before I approached them. LOL
I am absolutely terrible at recognizing people in real life from their online photos! But if I did, I would absolutely go and say hi to them!
Aw, thats sweet that a reader recognized you! If I saw a blogger I followed IRL I probably wouldn't say anything unless it was a blogger specific event. I'm just awkward like that! ;)
I've met other bloggers, but none randomly. Hope that happens to me, too! Sometimes, though, it does sometimes worry me about safety. Someone was doing an image search for me on Bing ("Heather, Life of a Traveling Navy Wife") recently and I was asking myself, "Hmmm, is that good or bad?" Awesome on the great times your husband put out on those 5K's! - Heather, Life of a Traveling Navy Wife
PS Followed you over from SITSshareFest!
Thanks for the shout out.=) I don't think I have ever run into another blogger just out and about IRL. And, I kind of shocked myself by coming up to you. I am normally not really that forward. But, I am glad I pushed myself and did. We all have circles that we are ministering to, and meeting someone randomly is a tangible sign of that. Have a wonderful day!
this is the best story!!! i would be over the moon if the same happened to me.
