Nightmares

I've never been the type to have monsters in my nightmares. My nightmares are always semi-reasonably related to my current life stage. Here's a list of the main ones:

Have I ever shown you this picture before? I think it's utterly hilarious. Apparently you can get four kids to sit still and look at a camera but the infant won't have anything to do with such business. This was taken around the time when I became quite terrified of interruptin my mom.
Childhood nightmare: I interrupted my mom while she was talking to some people. I knew better, interrupting was against the rules, but I did it anyway. She immediately dragged me down to a dungeon where hundreds of children were chained to the wall, told me that these were all of her other kids who had interrupted her before I had, and locked me up to spent the rest of my life in chains because of my transgression. Talk about dramatic!

Bride-to-be Nightmare: It's my wedding day, and Mom and Dad come and tell me that Angel is refusing to marry me, but not to worry, they found someone else who will marry me, so none of the money or arrangements will be wasted, I just need to go and marry him right now. In a daze, I go through with the ceremony, but at the reception, I see Angel there, and he's very upset. It turns out that my parents had been lying the whole time, and it was all a scheme to get me to marry this stranger, even though Angel had wanted to marry me all along. I chase after Angel to find him and explain that I didn't want to marry this guy, I'd been tricked, but it wasn't too late, we were still at the wedding venue and the papers hadn't even been filed yet.

Senior Year of College Nightmare: It's the seventh week of the semester, and I completely forgot that I had signed up for a class, and at this point I have failed to attend any of the sessions or do any of the coursework, simply because I forgot that the class existed. I'm trying desperately to find the prof and the classroom, which are seemingly impossible to find, because I need to straighten out this mess and find a way to fix my grade before graduation!

Newly-Licensed Cosmetologist Nightmare: I'm licensed, I already passed my state board test and I have the fancy card in my wallet--yet through some strange turn of events, my hours were calculated incorrectly and I have to return for one more week of cosmetology school. I'm devastated by the news.

About to Move to China Nightmare: I'm at an Indian restaurant, but the only language that the Indian lady who owns the restaurant and I share in common in Mandarin. And, bizarrely, my knowledge of Mandarin has disappeared and I'm left stumbling over a simple question "What hours is this restaurant open?" I manage to get out "restaurant" and "time" and "open" and she understands and tells me they're open till 10 p.m. but I'm so embarrassed that I can't string one sentence together. When I wake up, I immediately test myself, "Qing wen, nin de can guan cong ji dian zhong dao ji dian zhong kai shi?" What a relief. I haven't lost either my good sense or my Mandarin skills.

p.s. I'd like it to be noted that my parents are actually good people, they only play evil characters in my nightmares, it seems.

Do you ever have nightmares related to your actual life circumstance?

I have a recurring nightmare about a tornado. Each time I have it, the sequence of events is exactly the same, it just progresses further into the story. My mom said when I was little I watch the Wizard of Oz like every day... maybe that's why I'm terrified of storms and tornadoes!

The problem is I can never remember my nightmares on the rare occasion that they occur. Or I cant remember them correctly! So I wouldnt even know haha

Oh wow Rachel, your nightmares are hilarious, though I'm sure they were terrifying at the time. Most of my nightmares are also related to circumstances that could happen (no monsters--but lions in the basement is somewhat possible!)

My favorite though are the scary dreams with good endings: In one I was hired as a cashier but ended up saving the world by disassembling a nuclear bomb.

These are usually what my nightmares are like too. I often have a nightmare about arriving to work or other obligations hours late without having told anyone. Also, driving a car in my dreams is horrific. The brakes and steering wheel never seem to work right!

Your nightmares are so real! Except for that chained to a dungeon wall. Mine are always sounding like they're straight up out of fantasy land and Dali's paintings with swirling, changing landscapes and places that don't exist and creatures that don't make sense. Like I have nightmares about things that want to kill me more than I'd like to admit. This one time I dreamed that I was walking my dog in my neighborhood when it suddenly turned dark and I was walking toward an old castle and a murderer with goat horns and red converse on his hands and feet was wandering the neighborhood. There were dead frogs everywhere. I went to the castle and hid there to avoid the murderer, then suddenly I was climbing a bakery building that was actually a tennis court where people would make salads in fish tanks and vacuum them up with drills (SEE? SEE HOW LITTLE SENSE THIS MAKES). Then as I was making my own salad with the prisoners, the tennis court changed into a neighborhood surrounded by a colleseum. And at the top of the colosseum was the murderer and he sent his crows to get me, and the crows had strings with cranberries attached to their feet and I grabbed their strings and flew away on them, and the murderer was so confused but I stole his crows. Then I was in history class learning about the aforementioned.

WOW that was a long ramble but yep that goes to show there is no sense to my dreams :)

Ha, some of your nightmares are amusing.

My nightmares these days are awful things happening to the kids, my husband, myself....

Ha ha ha! Your brother's face in that picture is hilarious! I have definitely had the college nightmare. Being registered for a class that you didn't even know about is a terrifying dream. My regular nightmare is that my teeth are falling out. Like, I'll cough and 50 teeth will fall out of my mouth. I'm always losing way more teeth than I have.

I have some recurring nightmares, too. One of them is like your school one where I've supposed to been going to class for a semester, but have somehow forgotten that I had signed up for it until the last day when I have to take the final. I always wake up in a cold sweat and then breathe a sigh of relief when I know that it was only a dream:)

Wow, some of those dreams are pretty dramatic! I'm like you, I don't have many nightmares, but I can pinpoint the time of my life when I had the memorable ones.

Scary! That is too funny about the language dream.

I have bad nightmares almost every night. Someone is always chasing me and going to kill me. I have no idea whatsoever what that has to do with my life right now. Must have been a former life of mine when I was an international spy.

I have a lot of realistic nightmares. Only my good dreams are imaginative and adventurous. But, the realistic nightmares just goes to show the anxiety in my life!

I rarely have nightmares - but yours are hilarious! My one constant dream is that I can't sit down. I literally pop up into the air when I try.

I wish my nightmares were more like this than being chased by serial killers or watching my kids die in awful, sadistic ways. I absolutely hate my nightmares- they're so real and vivid and terrible. I usually waking crying and desperate to get to my babies and check them. :/

My nightmares mirror my fears for the future. Like getting to an old age with no one around, or losing all my money and being left homeless. These are my biggest fears right now and I can't seem to shake them...even when I am sleeping.

I've only had a few reoccurring dreams: my teeth falling out or having a baby that's actually a kitten. Not sure what that says about me...

Funnily enough, I believe I have one similar to that wedding dream before, only Justin never showed up. Truly a nightmare, but thankfully so.

oh goodness, i had a similar nightmare about my grad school exams for A YEAR after i passed. i thought they would review my thesis again and find a flaw or decide the requirements were too lenient - it's awful! and the wedding nightmares? my friends warned me about those -- seems silly for something so happy, but all the pressure?

Oh my goodness, the wedding nightmares. I had those the whole year I was engaged! I had one in particular a few weeks before the wedding, and it was so vivid. We got to the church and the pastor told us there had been a mistake and that the church would be having a movie night instead, and he had already told all of our guests to go home because the wedding was cancelled. I was panicked and tried to get in touch with everyone to reschedule the wedding, and it was chaos.
