The Dress I Almost Didn't Buy
A couple days into our trip, we visited the mall, and while wandering down one hallway, I spotted this dress on a manikin in a store window and was magnetically drawn to it. My sisters were all with me, encouraging me to buy it--but I've avoided buying any new clothing for so long, and I'm trying not to add any to our possessions, so I resisted. I left the mall, dress-less.
But my firmness of will turned out to be not quite so firm after all. This dress was still on my mind 5 days after I first saw it, so I returned to the mall, tried it on, and bought it.
Dress, 1. Rachel, 0.
My reasoning for weakening enough to buy it was that you hardly ever actually come across a dress which screams your name, and your name alone. There are many pretty dresses in this world, but there are fewer "you" dresses. This, is, unabashedly, a "Rachel" dress. It called me. We were made for each other. The day I wore it, multiple people asked me if I made the dress, which further confirms in my mind that it looks like precisely the kind of dress only a Rachel could conceive.
Now, what does it say about me that the dresses that call to me look like they could just as easily be worn by clowns? I don't know.
Please forgive the awkward hand shot, but I was so proud of my actually painted nails. I hadn't painted my fingernails ever since we moved to China, but I've been making use of my sisters' nail polish stash here...and I also picked up two rings which seemed to be unappreciated by their rightful owners while I was cleaning their room, bringing my current number of rings worn at all times to 8. I'm still on the lookout for a ring for the index finger of my left hand. I've come to the conclusion that rings are the best jewelry investment for me, since they never merely sit in storage, they're always on me!

This dress is absolutely 100% Rachel. I'm glad you went back for it!

This is adorable! If 5 days later it pulled you back, it was meant to be. The tailoring is perfect!
This dress is so beautiful! I love waiting on an impulse buy to see if it's really right :)
#1-I love wearing rings. I usually have at least 4-5 on. For everything. Swimming, biking, dress up, sleeping.=)
#2-I agree that the clothes you need to purchase are the ones you can't get out of your mind. It is for a reason.=)
This is so a "you" dress and looks great! I agree that you have to jump at those articles of clothing that you can't get out of your head and scream "you". They're usually few and far between:)
Oh yes, this is definitely you! So fun, I love the bright colors! You look great!
It's a good sign that you should buy something when a week later you're still thinking about it. Good find!! It definitely looks like it was made for you!!
Honestly, that's a great way to buy. Leave it to avoid the impulse, but if you're thinking about it days later, it's a good buy for you. And it IS you :)

^^^ LOL. Like, for real. Too funny. It really does look great on you, though. I'm glad you caved. I always say that if you're still thinking about it days later, just go back and buy it. Life is too short.
I thought you had made this as well. Really suits you.

I love love love your nailpolish and how it matches your dress :) you look wonderful. that is indeed a Rachel dress!!
You *have* to buy things when they call your name! Love that you got to use some Frozen nail polish ;)
I like it! So bright and free spirited. It seems to suit you well :) Good choice!
Oh, you know if it's on your mind FIVE WHOLE DAYS LATER that you gotta get it. Sometimes I wish I would wait five days later for an item because it inevitably goes on sale since everyone else thinks it's supuh ugly, but then the size I need could be out. It's a risky move. Like wizard's chess. Is risky. Okay, it's late and I'm tired and making Harry Potter references...
I like this dress. It's poppy and dotty and not crazy bright, but still has that spicy "hey look, I've got a personality!" thing going on. ;)
such an adorable happy dress---glad you got it!
This definitely looks like a super fun dress. You totally pull it off!
I'm so glad you got the dress for yourself! It looks fabulous on you.
Usually if something screams my name and I somehow manage to resist it I can never last a whole 5 days I think the most I've gone is 3 at least! So well done and good choice it looks good.

That's what happened with my wedding dress...we saw it, my sister and my BFF convinced me to try it on, even though I didn't like how it looked on the hanger...I wasn't in love with it while I tried it on, but it stayed on my mind and two days later my mom and I returned to buy it cuz I actually did love it, I was just being stubborn.
This dress is completely you! And I'm so glad it was still there when you went back to get it. Normally, when I go back to get something I just couldn't stop thinking about, it's gone!
I love that dress on you! That is how you know something is meant for you...it haunts you! Haha
That dress certainly looks like you! I'm glad you went back and got it!!!
The dress is really fun, and I can see why you like it! I know how you feel though when it comes to not adding more stuff to what you already have!

Wow, super cute and fun. I can see why you couldn't resist!
That dress is absolutely adorable on you! :D!! It's so bright and cheerful! :] I know the feeling of not wanting to buy anything else, but I'm so glad you splurged on it! (I love your nail polish color too! Tis my favorite shade of blue!)
PS) I don't understand my cape thing either. I am not sure if I'm wearing it correctly. I feel like it could go as a cowl around my head and be a little shorter in the back or be put snugly on my shoulders or just loosely around my neck almost like a scarf/poncho thing.
this is SUPER cute and totally fits you (from what i know of you via internet friends and that we were breathing the same smoggy air in the same city once)!
i'm also glad you showed off your nail polish but i rarely paint my nails either so it's an accessory all on it's own! glad you went back to answer the calling.
I am glad the dress won, it's perfect on you! I rarely do my nails too but it's because I can't stay within the lines.

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
That is definitely a fun dress! And I'm glad the dress was still there when you came back for it! Somethings I've resisted the temptation to buy--and then gone back later only to see they've already been sold--still haunt me!
It's a great dress and looks perfect on you. It's hard to say no when those kinds of dresses come around.
