Patterned Maxi Dress

I was innocently wandering a store that was seemingly full of non-amazing clothes when I fell in love with this dress.

It was an instantaneous, can't walk away, life-changing kind of love.

My mom was there, and her reaction to my excited exclamations over the sheer beauty of this dress was, "See? This is why I can never buy clothes for you. There's no telling what you're going to like. I could never pick this dress out of a lineup and think, 'Yep, that's the one Rachel wants more than anything else.'"

True, I've never worn or even wanted a maxi dress before...and I didn't want one when I walked into the store. It was this dress that changed my no-maxi stance. What is it, exactly, that I love? The blue and white pattern? The loose sleeves and lace-up front (slightly pirate-esque?)? The impossibly open back? Is the very fact that this dress exists enough to inspire love?

I don't know. But for me, I've always distinguished between pretty dresses and dresses that are so incredibly awesome that they're practically world-changing. For me, this is a world-changing dress.

And I kind of feel like Gandalf when I wear it (you know, the sleeves and long flowing skirt), so that's definitely a bonus.

Do you follow a recognizable system when buying clothes, or do you purchase only the things that you fall deeply in love with, whether they make sense or not?

I love your dress - I can understand your reaction when you saw it.

I buy a lot of my clothes in a charity shop and often find I am drawn straight to items which usually fit. I post weekly on my charity shop purchases which only cost me a few pounds.

What a beautiful dress! Like you, I avoided maxis -- until this Spring when a red-and-white striped one called my name. Love it and have found new appreciation for the lengthy style. You look fabulous.

I LOVE MAXIS. I wear Maxi Dresses, Maxi Skirts - Maxi anything as much as possible. Granted, I usually wear them on days when it's time to shave and I don't ;)

I love this dress on you. Dresses are one of my favorite items to wear because they can be dressed up or down depending on accessories but it's just one piece to think about.

That maxi dress isn't like most others....I like the more modest touches to it - the sleeves and higher neckline. I'd like to wear Maxis as actual dresses and not just beachwear, but most are too revealing for me to do so.

I love your dress! It reminds me of dresses from the 70s, so pretty!

That dress really does look great on you :) I am pretty predictable when it comes to clothing. I don't branch out much and when I do, everyone is confused. Ha!

You made a good choice! I never really liked maxi dresses until about three years ago! I usually wear midi or knee length dresses. But when I saw that dress, I just had to get it! So I can totally relate to your shopping experience. I guess sometimes we got to change up our style just a little bit!

This is a beautiful dress on you - I love the colors and the open back. I wish there was a rhyme and reason on how I shop but I am way too impulsive and buy way more than I would ever need.

I can see why you love it! It's a pretty amazing dress. I definitely don't have a set pattern when it comes to buying clothes, it's hard to say what makes me fall in love with one item and not another!
