On the first Saturday of the new year, Angel, Dad, MaryGrace, and Rebekah participated in a 5k Glow Night Fun Run.
Angel 'won' the race, being the very first finisher, quite possibly because he was the only person who decided to run a "Glow Run" seriously. Everyone else was just there for the fun...and the glow sticks.
The 2nd race of the month was on the 31st--for this one, the two girls were running in an under-18 6k, while Angel ran the 10k. It was a very early Sunday morning for us, we were in the car and headed to the race site shortly after 5:30 a.m.
The whole family came out to cheer, which was a good thing, because there was practically no one else cheering for the race, so we cheered for all the winners.
Unfortunately, the winners didn't include any members of our crew, but they all finished! Rebekah finished the 6k in 43 minutes, MaryGrace in 55 minutes. Angel came in with 48 minutes for his 10k, a time he's not happy with, but he figures it was the best he could do on a course that had "rolling hills" (that's the description from the race website. The rolling hills were big enough to dismay quite a few of the runners, by all accounts.) and with only 6 weeks of training. He was hoping to place in the top 10 for the Men's Open, but he came in 24th for Men's Open and in the top 50 overall. He's now planning on signing up for another race in April and then will have no more excuses.
I created a video of our race day experience. Watch for running footage as well as complaints about the size of the hills.
The race ended with a trip to McDonald's, after which everyone went home and showered, and made it to church only a few minutes late for service. Angel headed off to work right after church, taught for three hours, and in the evening we went to a birthday dinner for a friend.
So if Angel can run a 10k, go to church, and teach a 3-hour class on Sunday, what's your excuse?
Mine is that running is boring and not fun. :)
Sounds like you all had a great time during and after the race. Yeah, my excuse is the same, running is so boring and I'd rather take a dance class to get some workout done. But go Angel! You rock, girl!
Ok - I am not a runner... but love how the new themes of races/runs have popped up! The color ones and the Turkey Trots... all so fun. Maybe I'll try to do one in my lifetime! ;)

Good on Angel! He is very competitive. I have run 10 km races and hated them. Too many people and not fun at all. I prefer solo running where no one is around. For now I'm running on the treadmill. Talk about boring. The one good thing is that it is an incline treadmill, so I can add very steep hills to change it up a bit.

This makes me miss running. Not that I ever did it surrounded by people. I am more of a "the suns down and no one will see me" kinda gal. Its not pretty at all. lol Good job everyone. I know it wasn't what he wanted but he finished!
Haha I can find running pretty boring too. Especially for that long! I can do 5ks but I've never tried a 10k.
I went through a phase where I decided I was going to take up running. Then I remembered how much I love my knees so I stick to yoga and walking/hiking. Low key exercise is more my speed! The glow in the dark concept sounds really fun though! I love seeing all the different themes organizers come up with for races.
I need to sign up for a few races, myself!
Ahh I miss running. Now that the weather is getting semi-nice, I need to pull out my running gear! unfortunately whenever I *think* about running my knee begins to hurt.
Yay for them all finishing. I havent run in so long and this post makes me think that today is the day!
looks like you had a great time during the race. I am not a runner, but love all the races I see my friends participate in. They have so many fun new themes. I find running pretty boring if it was just for working out. lol
Fun! Congrats to all the runners! I love that your family cheered for all the finishers.
Races are what got me into running in the first place. I love them! Looks like you guys had a great time!
I am SO not a runner, but I have incredible admiration for people who are! Congrats to them!
I want so badly to love running, but my sentiments about it align right with yours. I can't think of anything I'd love to do less. ZzzzZzzzz. :)

Way to go! My goal is to run a 5K this summer!
I'm participating in my first 5k in March! This post made me even more excited for it.
I'm not the biggest fan of distance running, but a glow night run sounds like it'd be a lot of fun! I love those earrings, and congrats to Angel for winning the first one, and everyone for finishing the second one! Hills are no joke! x_x
Ha ha, I love your last sentence! That's how I felt about running until I graduated from high school and no longer had easy access to team sports for exercise.
I love that Angel didn't slow down and enjoy the glow run. In my mind, I imagine him running in the dark without a glow stick so that no one could see him and quietly passing everyone for the win. Ha!
Kudos to your whole family for running and supporting runners!
