Y'all know when I'm talking about running, I'm talking about Angel. I will attend races, I will not run them.
Now that we have that clear, Angel ran his 2nd 10k of the year this weekend. His goal was to run it in less than 48 minutes, his time from the 10k he ran at the end of January. He's been running 5k about 5 or 6 times a week since then for training purposes, so he thought he stood a good chance at doing better than he'd done last time.
And he did! His official time was 40:30 or something right around there. Furthermore, for the first time since I've started going to races with him, he placed!
I have a bit of a split personality on this. One side of me thinks it's completely amazing and unbelievable that someone I'm married to made it into the top 10 finishers of a race. The other part of me, highly influence by my...interesting...family, would say something like, "9th place is 8th loser."
You see what he has to live with?
Since we stayed so long after the race anyways for Angel to get his trophy, we decided to stay for the raffle, too. Most of the runners had already left by this point, which means that with 20 lucky-draw prizes to give away, they were pulling out number after number, but often without any response because the runner was already gone. Imagine our surprise when they called out: "M....1.....1....4!" for the Grand Prize--a bicycle! So not only did he finish 9th, but he also won a pretty sweet raffle prize!
He was so happy. During the ceremony, I'd said, "Even if you did win that bike, how would we fit it in the car and get it home?" I was skeptical that it could fit in our itty-bitty hatchback, but it actually did!
How many 10k races have you run? I'm keeping up a good record of 0. I don't know how many this is for Angel, but I don't think it's one of his favorite distances, so maybe only 5 or 6?

Wow!!! Angel is fast! Congrats to him!
I've run just as many 10ks as you have! I'm still working on 5Ks!
Oh my WORD that is so fast! Great job and awesome winning the raffle!
Congrats to Angel! I'm very impressed! And added bonus with winning the bike! A really great day.
I used to run 10 km but will be the first to say I hated it. I don't mind the running so much, but I like to run alone, not racing, a bit like meditating to music. I stopped running because I had some foot injuries but I'm hoping to get back into it again soon. I'll probably only do 5km now to try to avoid injury. I always feel energized after a good run.

Wow, congrats to Angel! That is a great time! I have been runnin for 6 years now and have participated in many different 5k races. Last year I ran my first 10k - without training, not the best idea. :) I also ran my first half marathon a week before graduation last year. I can't say it was fun, but it was definitely worth it and maybe I'll do another one someday. I am planning on running a 5k this coming Saturday.
"9th place is eight loser..." bah! I'm happy he finished! That's so wonderful for him, and so great that he's been dedicated to bettering himself. Plus a free bike?! He had a pretty good day. :-)
I am a terrible runner and with biking, I do it at a fairy comfortable pace, even with others. I have never been so good at racing during exercise--exercise is hard enough as it is, am I right?!
Congrats to Angel! That's really awesome. Very awesome, too, about the bike. Bicycles are amazing, and that's great that he won one! Like you, I'm sitting at a solid 0 for 10ks, and I am more than okay with that :) Definitely not a runner over here! Though I have so many friends who are into running that I think it'd be fun to train myself to run a 5k someday...maybe I'll get around to it eventually?
Congrats Angel. I have never run in a race before, but I'm sure it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. I'm sure he's proud of his accomplishment. The bike should help him to train for the next one. Again Congrats!
Congrats to him!! And it's always so fun to stay for the prizes at the end! I've run many races and will keep doing them to motivate me to keep working out!
Congrats, Angel! I'm with you, Rachel. I've never done a race and I have no desire whatsoever. The few of us non-runners have to stick together.
Congrats to Angel! I share your feelings about running, but I'm staring the couch to 5k program mainly hoping to lose weight - i paid for a 5k in June with a friend as a way of forcing myself to move. We'll see how that goes.
Congrats Angel!! Since I like to run too I have never been on the other side waiting for loved one to finish.
Wow, that is awesome! Congratulations!
Good for him! We did a 5k with our dog and it was like an hour and fifteen minutes, ha! He just had to stop and sniff EVERYTHING. ;) That's about the only kind of "races" I do anymore. The walking-sort. ;)
Bummer you left your glasses, but at least you can still read without them! It would have been a much longer 40 minutes without your book, I'm sure!
Good job, Angel! That is super fast and placing in a race, no matter where you place, is a big deal!
That's awesome about that bike. So fun!
WOW great job! 10 k's are no joke!
Wohoo! I've never done a 10k, but that's really impressive! I wish I enjoyed running more, because I love the idea of training for races and completing them!
My first exposure to road races was when I started watching Phillip run them. It's a whole other world.
Yay congrats, Angel! And wooo new bike! That's awesome!
Congrats! On 9th place and the bike! Sounds like a good day!
