It was a lot of fun, and it was good timing, as we'd just moved to Malaysia a few months before and I loved having the chance to reminisce about all the things I loved about living here as a teen.
This year, fairly late into September, I decided to try and come up with something for this year's Write 31 Days, but wasn't having much luck with a topic I wanted to stick to for the whole month. Eventually, I decided to combine writing for 31 days with a personal endeavor: wearing dresses.
Which brings me to 31 Dresses and 31 Stories, my series for this month. My intention is to wear a dress (or skirt, because I say they count) every day for the month, and to include random, hopefully funny, stories along with the outfits I post--basically, getting back to old-fashioned storytelling, which has always been my first love as a writer. Stories may or may not include misadventures, origin tales of where I got my dresses, or tales involving my husband and siblings, because I think they are hilarious. I also intend to include a few In Memoriam posts, talking about dresses that sadly are no longer a part of my wardrobe.
Now, here's the question: Do I actually have 31 dresses? I have no idea, but I guess we'll find out. What kind of self-respecting minimalist would own 31 dresses? See...I'm the sort of minimalist who keeps the things she really loves--in that case, it's quite possible that my wardrobe includes 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of athletic shoes, 0 pairs of pajamas, 1 swimsuit, and...31 dresses. I'd never be the capsule type.
{Angelism alert: He suggested taking this photo, and afterwards examined the photo on the camera's screen, and said, "It's perfect! Now I can use this kissing face and photoshop myself into SO MANY PICTURES!" He recently discovered 'photoshop' aka Microsoft Paint. Send help.}
You'll be able to find the full directory of this month's posts here:
Day 1: Intro + Angelism. Colorful Polka Dot Dress.
Have you ever joined a month-long blogging challenge? How many dresses do you think you own? What would you do if your husband developed a sudden passion for "photoshop"?
This sounds like a fun challenge! I'll be looking forward to your posts. I don't like wearing dresses very much, so I only have 4. But I love skirts! A quick count indicates I have about 15. The last photo is awesome...but I'd be worried to at Angel's remarks about it! :D
I found the blog "Becoming Minimalist" a few months ago. Tristan and I have been doing many of his suggestions for years, but it is still encouraging to see his writing. He makes the point that minimalism is different for everyone. As long as you value your dresses, then there is no reason that you shouldn't keep them. Who needs pjs anyway?

This is so cool! I'm excited to see all of your dresses and skirts. I love that polka dot one! HAHA! Angel is great, and I think his future photoshop-y adventures will be hilarious. My husband knows photoshop, but doesn't really use it for devious purposes. My younger brother, one the other hand, loves photoshopping pictures of one of his college friends into random photos, and it's fabulous.
I definitely tend to decide to buy my stuff based on whether I value/love/appreciate something. Which in my case leads to a collection of dresses, some of which date back to late high school...
And yet I still don't have many kitchen appliances after nearly a year and a half here...haha!
Ooooh I can't wait to read these posts!! How fun - such a great idea!
Cute! This is a great idea!
So cute! I can't wait to see all of the dresses...I need some new cute dresses.
Ha ha! I'll be looking for that kissing face popping up everywhere now. Once you fall down the Photoshop Rabbit Hole there is no going back.
I am not good with monthly challenges. I like watching other people commit to them though : )

Haha! I edited my brother-in-law into a photo one time and ever since then he claims he should never have to have photos taken again since I can now just photoshop him in. ;) I'm excited to see your dresses! :)
I own a lot of dresses since my work is really warm and I get too hot in pants! I also love how easily it is to put an outfit together when all you have to do is throw on one piece of clothing
What a fun challenge! I love your first dress--very cute :) I wonder if I have enough dresses to do something similar (though if skirts count, then yes, I think I could totally make this work!). Also loving your hair!!
I love this idea for 31 days of posts. I'm not sure if I own 31 dresses, or at least 31 that fit anymore, but it would be a great way to inventory my closet. Your husband is hilarious! I can't wait to see some photoshoped pics!
Hahaha. Oh Angel. Also, I am so very excited for this!!
What a fun post and that is the cutest dress! I will be checking back to see what other fun dresses you share!
I love this idea! Dresses are awesome and you look stylish when (at least for me) it's when I'm feeling my laziest. Good luck!
That is such a great idea!! I love it. And Angel always makes me laugh. I love the stories you share about him!
Angel plus "photoshop" sounds like a very dangerous combination.
Your dress is so cute!
Also, you might remember I hosted my own daily blogging challenge back in February. It will be back next year, in a modified version. I hope you'll join me again for the topics that interest you!
