I'm Rachel, and that explains everything.
But if you insist on further explanation, I'm a blogger/editor/cosmetologist/ESL teacher/homeschool mom. Former third culture kid, current ex-pat, in love with excessively bright colors. I can't resist a flaming red dress with an extravagant train. I met my husband in college. It was your typical 24 year old super-senior meets 17 year old freshman on her first day of class and eventually comes to the logical conclusion that she'd make a good wife love story. Angel and I were just about to settle down to a work, grad school, eat, sleep, repeat suburban lifestyle when we decided to move to China instead. We loved China, and thrived there, and after a year, picked up our lives once more to move into our third home--Malaysia.
Want to see our posts on destinations around the world? Check out these labels:
This blog is probably about travel, expat living, quirky fashion and hairstyles, funny stories about married life, homeschooling, and other surprises. If you're looking for a blog that does not mock winter photo shoots, does not involve grown men dressed as teddy bears, and does not make you laugh, this is not it. On any given day, if you come by my blog, you might find yourself reading about the latest prank Angel pulled on me, my passionate love for the pair of wedge sneakers I bought for 75 cents, a recent Mandarin fail, or the bizarre sentence I overheard while eavesdropping at the grocery store. I have a passion for living differently. I don't believe that anyone should feel that they have to eat, wear, buy, use, watch, read, or love something that they don't want to just because it's trendy and that's what "everyone" else is doing. My life goal is to be the exception to the everyone.
I will never host a blog hop, and I will never eat green eggs and ham. However, I will always believe that the best earrings are shaped like robots and/or forks and I will be an eccentric best-selling author, and you will be able to say you knew me when I was Rachel G, not eccentric at all.
In addition to Angel and my son, recurring characters on this blog include my 6 siblings: Lizzy, Isaac, Anna, Rebekah, MaryGrace, and Sarah. And my mom and dad. We live within walking distance of my parents' place, which means that currently, these characters occur in my stories particularly often. We are a completely normal family who do stuff like go to Angkor Wat together and wear matching t-shirts because Mom forced us to.
If you really want more of this random writing, you can purchase my illustrated book of stories, The Cactus Who Craved a Hamburger. If you're tired of reading and would prefer to watch randomness, here's the Youtube channel, which heavily features Angel, Cyrus, and my little sisters. I like to think I'm the star, however.

Amen to Erika! I feel like I'm finding so many lovely Michigan bloggers lately, which makes my little metro Detroit heart grow ten sizes too big :)
I've loved meandering through your blog this morning :) I LOVE your hair btw! I wish I had the guts to chop all mine off!

Popping on over from Arrows and I just have to say that I can't wait to get to know you better through this wonderful blog of yours x
Rachel, I'm so glad you commented on Jaybird so I could come find your blog! "If you're looking for a blog that does not involve peplums, weekly baby belly updates, or tutorials on how to make home decorations that will only serve to clutter up your bookshelves, this is it."-- exactly what I'd like to read.
So, I remember reading a while ago about how you don't use perfect grammar with your blog? I don;t either and recently had someone down talk my blog due to it. How do you deal with it?!
This is the most hilarious blog introduction that I've read probably ever. Well done Rachel the Random. And thanks for finding my blog so that now I've found yours that will surely be a great source of entertainment.
You go girl!! Love this. Can't wait to read more. Glad our blog paths crossed.
Seriously, you seem like a well versed and funny lady! Looking forward to following!

Hi Rachel, this is years later but you can sell directly from your blog using shoplocket. It's awesome, check it out! Zak
I admire your "passion for living differently" :) What a great page!
Haha this is by far the best 'about' page I've ever come across!!
That picture of you and your husband is awesome! :] I love your About page and it's so cool that you studied Mandarin! :] I took it for two years in high school and two quarters in college, so I was semi-proficient at it (enough that I could marginally pass as a receptionist at the free clinic I volunteered at), but it's been so, so long since I've had a chance to speak it with anyone! I may resort to talking to Siri on my phone... :x
Oh yay! A fellow TCK!!!!
Hey Rachel. I found your blog through the YTL Pangkor Laut Resort Facebook page. You are so cool. Looking forward to read more about your adventures.
Such a cute updated page! Love this!
